Which Klassic MK Mode Would You Bring Back In Mortal Kombat 12?

by Gambid on Mar 21, 2023 :: 0
Today Ed Boon asked his twitter follows, which classic Mortal Kombat side/mini game would they personally like to bring back. And while we were extremely disappointed that Pong and Galaxian did not appear on the list, we were happy to see that one of our favorites gathered most of the votes. In the list were all the mini and not so mini games from Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon: Puzzle Kombat, Chess Kombat, Motor Kombat and Konquest mode. And without a surprise Konquest mode got the most votes. Have a look:
Which Mini Mortal Kombat Mode Would You Bring Back

In fact Konquest mode first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as sort of a training mode where you got to learn a lot about the story of the kombatants while training with them. For those of you willing to read a lot, we have all the story right here.

Most fans are however fascinated and a truly love Konquest mode's second incarnation in Mortal Kombat: Deception. In it you got to explore 6 different realms as the new-comer Shujinko and train, while meeting basically every fighter who has ever appeared in the franchise. This mode was for back in day a major undertaking. And to have it just as one of the games included in Mortal Kombat: Deception was a tremendous achievement from the development team. For your viewing pleasure, we dug up this video from our archives:
The so far final incarnation of Konquest mode was in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, where you witness the events that would lead to the Armageddon through the eyes of Taven, brother of Dagon and son of Argus, protector of Edenia. This mode is special as it borrows many mechanics from Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. It did sacrifice the free roaming and exploration aspects though.

Will we see Konquest return in Mortal Kombat 12? The Krypt in Mortal Kombat 11 got really close but a mode with a larger scale is definitely very welcome. Which version of Konquest mode is your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

Mortal Kombat fans have been eagerly and somewhat patiently awaiting any new information regarding Netherrealm Studio's next game, not at all going after ;) studio member in hopes that they would let something slip. From Injustice 3 to Mortal Kombat 12 to Mortal Kombat VS Marvel, we have heard it all during the last 3 years as NRS broke away from their typical release cycle.
Mortal Kombat 12 Revealed for 2023
It would seem though that the veil might very soon lift as Andrew Slabin, the Warner Bros. Discovery's executive vice president of global investor strategy unexpectedly announced that Mortal Kombat 12 will be released in 2023. Ed Boon's Twitter AMA Highlights Shaolin Monks, MK4, The Grid and Next MK

by Gambid on Sep 26, 2022 :: 1
A couple of days ago, Mortal Kombat co-creator and Netherrealm Studios creative director Ed Boon hosted a Ask Me Anything session on Twitter.

The session itself gathered more than 800 comments with several hundreds questions. Answered were however only handful of questions. So, lets go through the most interesting parts of the AMA. For better reading experience we will rewrite the questions a little bit, without changing what is indeed asked:

Q: When will we finally get a Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks remaster or an emulated re-release of the arcade version of Mortal Kombat 4?
Ed Boon: You KNOW we’ve talked about this. But its hard to fit in a big project like that and continuing to make our MK and Injustice games. Some day.

Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks

Q: Will something be announced at the Game Awards (taking place on December 8th 2022)?
Ed Boon: I can’t give a YES or NO to that question.

Q: Will Tremor return at some point?
Ed Boon: I’d be surprised if you never saw Tremor appear in one of our future games. But I can’t promise he will be in our next game.

Q: Know you’ve been asked a bunch. But I would really love to see The Grid make a return to modern consoles. Always had a blast playing the 3 player unit at my local arcade before they got rid of it.
Ed Boon: I love that game too.

Q: When will we get Mortal Kombat 12 (asked multiple times)?
Ed Boon: MK11 was our biggest MK ever. I’d be surprised if we NEVER did another one.
Ed Boon: Glad you want to see another Mortal Kombat. But we aren’t ready to announce our next game yet. Sorry.
Ed Boon: We aren’t ready to announce it yet. Each game has a planned schedule from announce to launch.

As you can see the answered questions have wide variety. What you can get out of this is, no Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks or Mortal Kombat 4 at the moment and we should definitely be looking at this years' Game Awards (just don't get too excited). Answering a question about The Grid was also a nice reminder of the existence of the game. For those who do not know, The Grid was developed by the Mortal Kombat team at Midway after Mortal Kombat 4 and featured MK characters like Scorpion. Have a look at its trailer:
