The past few months have been really quiet for the fans of Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) and there is almost nothing new even now. There are however one good and one sort of bad thing worth mentioning in this news recap:

The Future of the Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) Online Play

GameSpy recently announced that it will be shutting down its online servers on May 31st 2014. The servers are currently used by thousands of games with supported online play, including Mortal Kombat 9 (2011). After the announcement, it became clear that NetherRealm Studios eventually have to decide the fate of the Online features of its most recent Mortal Kombat installment. While things do look good for the PC, PlayStation 3 and the XBox 360 players, this is not really the case for the PSVita fans. Here is the official statement from the Facebook page of the series:

We are currently in the process of migrating Mortal Kombat (for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) from Gamespy’s servers and expect things to go smoothly. During the transition, players may experience an interruption of online play and matchmaking and we ask for your patience during this time. Players will not experience interruptions to offline play throughout this process.

After May 31, Mortal Kombat for PS Vita will only support ad-hoc multiplayer.

MK Recap 3: The Future of MK: Legacy and The New Movie

by Gambid on May 29, 2014 :: 0
As we reported a few months back, Mortal Kombat: Legacy director Kevin Tancharoen informed the fans at the end of last year that he is leaving Mortal Kombat after three years spent with the franchise. Ever since that day, there has been a complete eclipse regarding the fate of the third season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and that of the new movie. All that changed, when NerdReactor interviewed Kevin about his latest project:

With Legacy, you have approached each season differently, with the first one being an anthology of sorts.

With Legacy Season 1, it was kind of a big experiment. No one has done it before, and we didn’t know if should be an anthology or connected. We did the first one as an anthology and the second one more serialized. In the future, it will definitely be more connected and more cohesive.

We are starting to talk about it [Legacy Season 3] literally this week (knock on wood). I’m starting to talk to Warner Bros. and the video game creators, so hopefully we can see it through.

We better see it, especially after that cliffhanger in Legacy Season 2.

I know, we pissed off way too many people. Ed Boon and I are going to get together and chat and talk to Warner Bros. about figuring it out.

Is this the reason why we’re not going to see a Mortal Kombat movie from you?

We all feel right now that we have such a trajectory to the series. There are so many more stories to tell in that format.

So, there we have it. It seems that there is still hope for Season 3 of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, while the new movie seems to be on hold, at least according to its former director.

MK Recap 2: MK2 Secret Characters & MK4 Noob Saibot Playable

by Gambid on May 29, 2014 :: 0
Even though Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 4 are about 20 years old games, the two classics don't stop inspiring fans of the franchise all over the world who put the original arcade versions literally under the microscope. The Hacking/Modding Communities don't stop surprise the fans. Here are two of the latest discoveries:

Mortal Kombat II Secret Characters Now Playable

After years of failed attempts, the Mortal Kombat II Arcade secret characters Jade, Noob Saibot and Smoke are finaly fully playable thanks to abystus. The three fighters retain their original gameplay properties, like increased speed and life and even have finishing moves. Take a look at some videos:

Playable Noob Saibot and Kitana icon discovered in Mortal Kombat 4 Rev. 1.0

For years the ellusive black ninja Noob Saibot has remained completely hidden on the arcade version of Mortal Kombat 4 and it was believed that the character exists only in non-released beta versions of the game.
Image
This all changed when abystus discovered a lot of unused content in the Revision 1.0 rom. Here is a list of the discovered content:

- Kitana (Tower portrait only, unfortunately. Was completely removed in 2.1 and 3.0.)
- Noob Saibot (Not normally selectable. Was completely removed in 2.1 and 3.0, but has been playable in earlier beta builds.)
- Unused Character Bios (Revision 1.0 did not have these enabled, and for good reason. These were later fleshed out with the real character bios in 2.1.)

Take a look at some very interesting YouTube videos:

Injustice Recap: Sequel, Mobile 2.0, Comics Year 2, Patches

by Gambid on May 28, 2014 :: 0
Even though no more DLC characters were planned after the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, things just can't stay quiet around this game, at least not for long:

Amazon Sale:

Let's begin with some really cool deals. In case, you haven't purchased the game yet, here you have an amazing opportunity to do it, as Amazon is currently offering the PC version of Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition for only $7,50.

Batgirl Hotfix
Just because NetherRealm Studios has stopped developing new DLCs for the console version of the game doesn't mean that they have stopped supporting the game at all. Prove of that is the recently released 5.22.14 Hotfix, which fixes an issue with Batgirl's Flying Bat Special Move.

Prequel Comic Book Year 2:

The prequel comic book for the Injustice: Gods Among Us, has been one of the last year's best sellers. It's initial run ended after its 36th digital issue. The success of the series resulted in its continuation. Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 2 started digital publication in January 2014 with 2 digital chapters combined in one printed issue released each month. Digital chapter 10 and print issue 5 were released only a few days ago:

Synopsis: Under orders from the Guardians, Kilowog leads a team of Green Lanterns to Earth to apprehend Superman and return him to Oa to stand trial. But the Man of Steel is not about to go quietly. And the Green Lantern Corps haven’t factored in Superman’s new allies. The first battle begins in a war that could tear the universe apart.

Injustice Mobile News
Image
Several are the major news regarding the Mobile Edition of Injustice: Gods Among Us. For starters, the game is very well supported and new content appears for it all the time. An Android version was released last November and version 2.0 with multiplayer support was released last month for iOS: There is currently no information regarding an Android release of this version.

Shortly after the release of version 2.0, a lot of players found themselves banned from the game, which forced developer NetherRealm to explain the issues in this news update.
The Future

Injustice: Gods Among Us is still a very supported and loved game and new content is being developed, at least for its Mobile version. This does not stop Warner Bros to look to the future as rumors for a sequel in development have been flying around recently.

There are even speculating that a new studio might be in charge of development as NetherRealm is fully occupied with the development of the next Mortal Kombat.

Take all this information with a grain of salt as nothing has been officially confirmed yet. We will let you know more as soon as new information appears. For all available information about the game, please visit our Injustice: Gods Among Us section.
