Netherrealm Studios has just released a new, centered around Kitana Mortal Kombat X trailer:
The trailer explores the connections to Kitana of one of the team members and features among other things the three variations of the character:

During the development of Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) a very strong fan support managed to get the fan favorite ninja Rain into the game as a DLC fighter. Now another ninja, Tremor, is receiving the same and may be even stronger support from the fans for Mortal Kombat X:
Fans have been creating petitions and gathering support for the characters over several different Social Networks (including Twitter) and we would like to contribute to their enthusiasm and effort and help make their dream come true. So we ask you to take a look at the Make Tremor A Playable Kombatant in Mortal Kombat X petition and sign it.

Are you scratching you head, asking yourself who Tremor is? Don't be ashamed, it happens even to the best of us. Here is a small history of the character for you:

Tremor first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces as one of the members of the Black Dragon who escaped from the Special Forces prison alongside Kano:
The Prison Break:
Due to the unfortunate fate of the game, he was only present in the game as one of the boss characters and did not receive any additional story.

The Intro:
A mysterious bio for Rain in Mortal Kombat Trilogy hints at the plans to include Tremor in the game, but this did not happen.

In the PSVita version of Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) Tremor was a playable character in the Challenge Tower:

In chapter 8 of the Mortal Kombat X comics a battle with an unexpected outcome is approaching as Goro and Rain are preparing to face Kotal Kahn:
In an act of desperation, Kotal Kahn resorts to dangerous blood magic to take down the insurgents. But will it be enough to finish Outworld's champion?

Fellow Mortal Kombat fansite Kamidogu has interview Mortal Kombat X comic book writer Shawn Kittelsen:

Kamidogu: When did initial planning for the Mortal Kombat X comic series begin? How did you score the gig?

Shawn: I pitched the book back in April 2014, and landed the gig in May. Outlining the first year of the series took us into the summer, but by August I was working on scripts. So it’s been a journey!

Scoring the gig was a combination of luck and hard work. I’d worked with NetherRealm Studios on the story for Injustice: Gods Among Us a few years ago when I was a creative executive at DC Entertainment, and that was an incredible experience. When it came time to recruit a writer for the MKX series, I was lucky enough to land on their list, but as a relatively unknown writer, I knew I had to prove myself. Writing the pitch was an intense process. I poured everything I had into it. And luckily, it paid off!

The official description for Kitana's third variation in Mortal Kombat X (Mournful) has just been released:
Mournful is a very special variation as it honors Jade, a fan favorite character that won't return in Mortal Kombat X

In an interview taken by GamerFitnation Spawn's creator Todd McFarlane announced that he has already said Yes to a possible inclusion of Spawn in Mortal Kombat X as a DLC character:
However the deal has a very small window so if Netherrealm Studios decides to include the character, they should do it fast.
