The New Mortal Kombat: Facts, Rumors And Speculations
by Gambid on Jun 1, 2014 :: 0 Comments

Three years have passed since the initial release of Mortal Kombat 9 and fans have been patiently awaiting the next major installment of our beloved fighting game franchise. During all these years, things have been kind of quiet due to the release of last years' Injustice: Gods Among Us. But now things have started to move again, or at least so it would seem. In this final and most expected news recap, we will attempt to summarize all the facts, the rumors and the speculations surrounding the next Mortal Kombat game:

Kiefer Sutherland and Karen Strassman
It all began when actor Kiefer Sutherland confirmed his involvement in an upcoming Mortal Kombat game (IGN):

“I did Mortal Kombat, and that's such a huge game, but it’s so not like [MGS5]."

Shortly after that, the voice actress behind Kitana and Mileena listed a supporting role in what she calls Mortal Kombat 2. The listing was of course later removed from her website.

The name of the game and the mentioning of Mortal Kombat II Director's Cut by Ed Boon himself sure add to an interesting ideas popping up in our heads.

Ed Boon's Countdown
This story continues with all the clues and hints dropped by creative director Ed Boon, who started surprisingly counting the days to June 2nd, 2014 on Twitter.

This surprised the fans even more, as the date is a week before this years' Electronic Entertainment Expo (June 10-12 2014), on which Netherrealm Studios will be present.

And while we are discussing Twitter, Ed Boon isn't the only one teasing something new. So is motion capture artist Carlos Pesina:

As we come closer to that date more and more Mortal Kombat hints and leaks appear online.

Leaked Mortal Kombat Poster
Surprisingly to all AllGamesBeta published what appears to be a teaser poster for a new Mortal Kombat game on Twitter:

The poster has the text "WHO'S NEXT?" on it:

The new Dragon Logo:
Shortly after the release of the poster, the official Mortal Kombat website, the official Facebook page and the Twitter pages of several NetherRealm employees, including creative director Ed Boon's have all adopted a new, redesigned Mortal Kombat dragon logo and the text from the poster:

Mortal Kombat X listed on Amazon UK
As time passes, we come to today, when it was discovered that Amazon.co.uk has listed Mortal Kombat X with a place holder release date December 31st, 2015 among its items. The game is listed for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, XBox 360 and XBox One:

Conclusion
This sure is a lot of information for one update. There are a lot of uncertainties. As a matter of fact, nothing is officially confirmed aside from the fact, that we are getting an announcement tomorrow (June, 2nd 2014). According to the latest information, this will happen around 8 AM CDT.

Will a new Mortal Kombat game be announced? It sure looks like it. Will it be a sequel to Mortal Kombat 9 (2011), a remastered Mortal Kombat II, a cross over with another franchise or something completely different? What about the rumored Injustice: Gods Among Us sequel?

What do you think? There are certainly so many questions and so very little that is certain.

Make sure to stop by tomorrow and see what was announced and find the answers of all the above questions.

Legacy Season 2 Interview + 2. Trailer, Feature Film Plans
by Gambid on Apr 8, 2013 :: 22 Comments

During this years' MIPCube Mortal Kombat: Legacy director Kevin Tancharoen and Lance Sloane, Head of Digital Programming and Development at Warner Bros. Digital Distribution participated in a discussion about the past, the present and the future of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and the next Mortal Kombat Feature Film.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Season 2 Trailer 2

Unfortunately no concrete release date has been announced for both projects but the next movie is mentioned in a conjunction with a new Mortal Kombat game, both planned for 2014. This should of course not be taken as an official announcement because it wasn't meant as one. The part of the conversation where this information comes from can be found at 19:30 and the release was mentioned with hopefully in between. Tons of additional interesting information is given and this is definitely an interview that you will not want to miss.

Make sure to watch till the end to watch a brand new Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 2 trailer. It starts at 29:50:

The video was removed by the user.

Whether the information about a new movie and game releases in 2014 is completely accurate remains to be seen but nevertheless it is great to see some new Mortal Kombat information.

Update 04.09.2013:

The video went private only several hours upon its release. It looks like the Warner cover up machine is on full speed lately. It kind of makes us wonder what part of the discussion we weren't supposed to see. Whatever it is, it is too late because the cat is already out of the bag. Too bad for those of you who couldn't enjoy the new trailer but Machinima will probably release it too at some point.

Take a look at all available Mortal Kombat: Legacy information, including the latest cast and crew announcements in our Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

E3: GameTrailers Interviews Ed Boon
by Gambid on Jun 8, 2011 :: 8 Comments

Less than an hour ago, GameTrailers had the chance to interview Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon at this years E3, where the DLC character Skarlet is playable for the first time. During the interview Ed Boon revealed his and Netherrealm Studios' plans for the future:

- The current priority of the team is to support Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) through DLC Characters. The plan is to release new DLC Characters the entire summer, with at least 4 being currently planned. The first two are Skarlet and Kenshi. Skarlet will be available in the next few weeks but no date has been specified. During the interview you can see both of her Fatalities. Ed Boon once again confirms that the number of released DLC packages will mostly depend on whether fan's download them. He promises big surprises with the DLC Characters.
- Ed Boon also mentions that big things are coming up but he cannot talk about them just yet. Somehow the name of Kratos and guests pops up in the context. He also mentions that games like Mortal Kombat would look nice on PS Vita, PSP's successor which means that the door is wide open and we may see a release on that platform at some point in the future.
- When asked about where the team is going from here in the plans for a future game, Ed Boon points out several possible directions. He would love to further expand the Cinematic experience of the game (seen in Story mode). He does not think that we have seen the last of the characters who died in the game. The team also wants to expand into different genres. So, who knows, the next Mortal Kombat might be a new Action Adventure or something completely different. However he confirms that things aren't even on paper yet, so these are really just ideas.
