by Gambid on May 22, 2023 :: 2
With the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) a Mortal Kombat franchise sale started on Steam. If you do not have Mortal Kombat X or Mortal Kombat 11 yet, this would be a great opportunity to grab them with an up to 90% discount.
Mortal Kombat Franchise Steam Sale
The highlight of the sale is in my opinion the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate/Injustice 2 bundle that is indeed 90% off.

The sale will continue until May 26th, 2023, so you still have a couple more days to grab what you need.

MK11U Secret By Dizzy Has Finally Been Revealed

by Roy Arkon on Feb 23, 2023 :: 0
Just over a year ago, we reported that there are still some hidden secrets in Mortal Kombat XL, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and Injustice 2 according to NetherRealm Studios' Stephanie "16-Bit" Brownback, in relation to a secret in MK11U that was stated to be hidden by another NRS/WB developer, Aaron "Dizzy" Davis, all the way back in 2020. Ever since, neither Dizzy's secret nor any other secrets have been discovered, until now.

A few days ago, Dizzy Tweeted that someone, who's a well known member of the NRS/WB community nonetheless, has DM'ed him that he finally discovered Dizzy's hidden secret, and of course Dizzy quote-Tweeted his original Tweet back from 2020 to make sure there is no confusion on the matter:

On the next day, that community member turned out to be MK content creator Waz, and as you could already see from Dizzy's Tweet above, the secret in question is a character-specific Easter Egg, belonged to the gunslinger of Outworld, Erron Black. As you know, every character in MK11U has multiple match intros, round-victory taunts and victory outros. In one particular round taunt, Erron Black flips a coin a couple of times before he puts it back in his pocket. If you get that taunt while holding Up, instead of putting the coin in his pocket, he would toss the coin to the opponent. But that's not all, as there's an extra part to that Easter Egg, which at least at the moment it seems random, in which Erron Black will also say to the opponent "keep the change". So Erron Black not only has a secret round-winning taunt, but he also has hidden voice-line included to it.

Here's a video from Waz's Twitter, showcasing the Easter Egg, at which he also clarifies that he only discovered the hidden voice-line while other members discovered the secret taunt and told him about it:
Of course, there are more secrets hidden, as we mentioned already, across multiple games, but the fact that at least one of them has finally been discovered 4 years after it was hinted, goes to show that we can still discover them all as well. Whatever those secrets are, they are surely cool such as this one, and we will report to you about them as soon as they are discovered.

Mortal Kombat Sets Yet More Sales Milestones

by Roy Arkon on Oct 12, 2022 :: 0
In July of last year, we reported you on several sales milestone that the Mortal Kombat series has achieved. These news confirmed at the time that Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate has reached 12 million copies sold, also that Mortal Kombat XL is just right above it in sales, as well as that the Mortal Kombat Mobile app has reached 138 million downloads, and overall, the series has sold 73 million copies, at which point it was already the best selling fighting game franchise of all time.

A few days ago, Warner Bros. Games have sent a new press release in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the MK franchise, in which the sales stats have been updated and showcase new millstones. As of right now, MK11U has sold 15 million copies, MK Mobile has massed more than 150 million downloads, and the franchise has sold more than 79 million copies overall, taking it's all time best-selling fighting game franchise status to an even greater height.

While it isn't clear if MKXL still got more copies sold than MK11U or the tides have been turned to the latter's favor, a milestone of 15 million copies sold is unquestionably gigantic, especially considering that the fighting game genre is a very niche genre in general, and shows that MK11U is in an amazing place, over 3 and half years later after release. And regardless what are the sales numbers for MKXL, this game has proven it's success as well and to a insanely high degree.

As we can see, the series is in a fantastic place, and we can all just imagine where NetherRealm Studios/Warner Bros. Games will take the series from here. These are huge milestones indeed, and regardless what the next Mortal Kombat game will bring to the table, the future looks as bright as it possibly be. And if it does look dark to you, it's only because of the violence, blood and gore that only Mortal Kombat can bring in. :mrgreen:

History Of Weapons In The Mortal Kombat Games

by Roy Arkon on Jul 29, 2022 :: 0
The fighting game genre had weapon-based fighting styles being used and showcased across multiple games and across multiple franchises, and the Mortal Kombat franchise is one of them. While it was never a full-on weaon-based series like Soul Calibur or Samurai Shodown, MK had weapons being used for the vast majority of it's games and for a vast majority of characters in the series, with the weapons having their level of usage, visibility and gameplay impact being changed from game to game, and in some cases, from character to character.

In his newest video, Ketchup breaks down everything that weapons have brought to the MK series, from Mortal Kombat II all the way to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate.

Author's note: Technically speaking, the MK series started to have weapons since Mortal Kombat 1, but it was only with Scorpion and Kano and with only 1 special move each (Scorpion's Spear and Kano's Knife Toss), while MK2 was the game that really gave the signs of things to come for the series as the concept of weapons has been used for more characters and not only way more than just one special move, but Fatalities as well.

Check out the video from Ketchup below, enjoy:

NRS/WB Hire Two Pro Players As QA Testers

by Roy Arkon on May 21, 2022 :: 0
Ryan Walker and Ryan Dedomenico, also known by their player tags as Dragon and Big D respectively, are two competitive pro fighting game players who specialize in NetherRealm Studios/Warner Bros. games, and have played in various tournaments for both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice games.

A couple of days ago, both Walker and Dedomenico have individually announced on Twitter that they were hired by NRS/WB as QA testers.
This is not the first time that a pro player was hired by NRS/WB, as Stephanie "16-Bit" Brownback and Aaron "Dizzy" Davis are also former competitive players who were hired by NRS/WB. Brownback works for the company as the lead QA analyst and also is a co-host in the NRS Kombat Kast, while Davis works as a senior designer. Both of them already contributed so much to both MK and IJ games, and now that Walker and Dedomenico have joined the team as well, they surely will contribute to them just as much.

Congratulations to both Ryan Walker and Ryan Dedomenico for joining NetherRealm Studios/WB Games.
