Mortal Kombat (2011) & Mortal Kombat VC DC Universe Added To The XBox Backwards Compatible List

by Gambid on Nov 16, 2021 :: 3
Yesterday Microsoft kicked off its celebration of Xbox's 20th anniversary with a special online event. Part of it was the announcement that XBox is expanding its backwards compatibility catalogue, adding to it a significant number of XBox and XBox 360 titles. The video mentioned titles like the Max Payne games and the F.E.A.R. franchise.

However what it failed to mention was that among those titles are two very dear games to each and every Mortal Kombat fan. And those are Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) and Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. You definitely read that correctly the two games have been finally added to the list of compatible games and are now fully playable on XBox One and XBox Series X/S consoles. What is good about XBox's backwards compatibility program is that, if you already own the games, you can just put the disc in and play then.

This marks a legendary moment in the history of the Mortal Kombat franchise as the 4 modern titles, Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe, Mortal Kombat 9 (2011), Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11 have been brought together and are natively playable on the same platform for the very first time. Things were getting difficult, especially for Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe, which was stuck on XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, while Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) has a PC version in addition which made things a bit more bearable for the fans.

Both games benefit from higher resolution, faster to non-existing loading times, auto HDR, etc.. depending on the console you are using. In other words, they look better than they have ever looked before.

What needs to be mentioned here is however the fact, that both games are as of right now not available on the digital store, so you will need a disc in order to play them.

It is kind of interesting that there doesn't seem to be any information, statement or announcement regarding the release from Netherrealm Studios and/or WB Games.

We are however extremely excited and cannot wait for these games to meet a whole new generation of fans. A bit of a trivia here, Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe was the last Mortal Kombat game to be released under the Midway banner, so seeing that logo flashing on my XBox Series X sure brought back memories.

I would like to say thanks to MKSecrets member ZXT-92 for the heads-up on this news.

Ed Boon Deconfirms Ash Williams Leak, Teasing An Update

by Roy Arkon on Sep 2, 2020 :: 2
A couple of days ago, Richard Epcar (who voiced both Raiden and the Joker in NetherRealm Studios games since Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe) has stated in a Q&A video that Bruce Campbell, the actor behind the character of Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series, will appear in Mortal Kombat 11 as part of the "new package" of the game, supposedly leaking Ash Williams and another huge update for MK11.

Ed Boon then came to Twitter to set the record straight, deconfirming the false reveal from Epcar regarding Ash Williams, which means that Ash won't be added to MK11's roster, and he even did it in more then one Tweet in order make sure that there will be absolutely no confusion whatsoever about the matter.
That's not to say that there will be no update at all, as before Boon deconfirmed the false leak, he also teased on Twitter that something is indeed on the way to MK11.
As you might remember, Boon and NRS have stated before MK11's release that this will be the longest supported NRS title to date, and now Boon keeping the hype going regarding the next course of support for the game, while also confirming that it won't include Ash Williams. What exactly that update will be? And which characters will be added to the game if such support action leans towards that addition? We might find out very soon.

Are Steve Blum and Richard Epcar Teasing KP2 For MK11?

by Roy Arkon on Mar 13, 2020 :: 2
Steve Blum & Richard Epcar both had very important roles in the voice acting department for NetherRealm Studios games, and they might have just threw us teases for Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 11.

First, Blum has posted this image on his Instagram page, showing a picture of the Warner Bros. water tower, indicating that he is working on something with WB or that is related to them, which can indicate something that is related to NRS, such as MK11.

Then Epcar also posted a picture of the WB water tower on his instagram page, following with another image of himself in a studio, while also tagging NRS and stating that "if we knew what he was recording, we would've squeal like a pig", indicating even further that this might have something to do with MK11.

Richard Epcar MK11 KP2 Tease

As you might know, Blum was the voice for several characters in NRS games. He was the voice of Reptile, Sub-Zero and Bo' Rai Cho in Mortal Kombat XL, as well as the voice for Sub-Zero and Green Lantern in Injustice 2, and most recently the voice for Sub-Zero and Baraka in MK11. If Blum does come back for KP2, it's extremely likely that he will reprise his role as Reptile like he did in MKXL.

Epcar had portrayed the roles of both Raiden and the Joker since Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe throughout both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises. It's unclear what character he might voice next for MK11 though.

Stay tune for more news regarding MK11 and KP2.

MK11 The Joker Gameplay Trailer, New Skins Included

by Roy Arkon on Jan 16, 2020 :: 0
The Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay trailer for the newest DLC character for the game, the Joker, has finally arrived. Voiced by Richard Epcar, Joker show a whole slew of new tricks to show his dark humor while battling his opponents, along with several Easter Eggs and references to both the Mortal Kombat and DC Comics Universes, including a reference to the Friendship Finishing move that was introduced to the Mortal Kombat franchise in Mortal Kombat II.

The trailer also showcases 4 new skins, all are inspired by the DC Universe. The first 3 skins are coming in the DC Elseworlds Skin Pack and those are for Noob Saibot as The Batman Who Laughs (an evil Hybrid of Batman and Joker), Baraka as Killer Croc, and Kitana as Catwoman. And the final skin is an additional one, and it's for Geras as Darkseid.

Author's opinion: I myself was in favor of the Joker coming to MK11 before MK11 was even announced. Considering the more recent DC Comics stories that feature Joker as much more violent and gruesome villain (more specifically in the Death of the Family Saga, in which Joker rips his own face and put it back on as a mask), as well as that Joker, in a way, already was a guest character in Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) through Shang Tsung's Fatality that was based on Joker's Fatality from Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, and the fact that the Injustice franchise already had all of the top Mortal Kombat mainstays Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden, as guest characters in both Injustice 1: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2, there was no doubt that Joker would be a perfect guest character for MK11, and it was bound to happen, and I'm very happy that it happened. This trailer exceeded my expectations and I'm very excited for Joker to come to MK11 even more that I already was before.

Make sure to watch the MK11 Kombat Kast for the Joker, who will be added to MK11 along with a the new skins on January 28th, 2020.

Mortal Kombat 11 Award News, Plus Joker Teaser

by Roy Arkon on Dec 13, 2019 :: 0
We got a ton of news regarding Mortal Kombat 11 in context of game awards, so let's get to it.

Unfortunately, MK11 didn't win the the award for the Best Fighting Game of 2019 at the Game Awards show. However, MK11 has won the award for Best Fighting Game of 2019 from IGN, which is a huge honor in it's own right. Ed Boon also came with his response for the winning the other day as you can see below.
That's not to say that MK11 didn't had any impact at the Game Awards show though, as Facebook Gaming, in collaboration with the Game Awards show as part of the campaign for highlighting the work that women have made for all of the games this year, have given the recognition for Shannah O'Meara, a Senior Artist of Cinematics at WB Games, for all of the work that she had put for designing the iconic Fatalities in MK11
And last but not least, MK11 has dropped one more thing for us to look for, and that is a teaser for the next DLC character in the game, the Joker, once again being voiced by Richard Epcar who voiced both Raiden and Joker in all of the NRS games since Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, in an intro with Cassie Cage in her Harley Quinn skin. As you can see, Joker's face have been remodeled to fit him more.
Congratulations for Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios and WB Games for winning IGN's Best Fighting Game Award for 2019, and Congratulations to Shannah O'Meara for getting the recognition for her amazing work on the MK11 Fatalities. And with that being said, stay tuned for more news regarding the Joker in MK11.
