More MK11 Aftermath Details And More Screenshots [UPDATE]

by Roy Arkon on May 8, 2020 :: 0
We got more details about the Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath expansion, as explained in the official Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath FAQ at the official WB Games site.

As it turns out, the Eternal Skin Pack (which includes the “Unbound Rage” Scorpion Skin which is based on his Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) Skin, the “Son of Arctika” Sub-Zero Skin that is based on his Mortal Kombat: Deception Skin, and the “Kori Power” Frost Skin which is based on both Frost's Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance Skin and Sub-Zero's Mortal Kombat II Skin) isn't a part of the MK11 Aftermath expansion, but rather a Pre-Order bonus, similar to the PS4 main menu theme that we've reported on earlier this week. All of the 3 Skin Packs that are included in the expansion are all separated from the Eternal Skin Pack, and those 3 Skin Packs will be released over time.

On top of that, there is a new exclusive Johnny Cage Skin, called the "Thanks a Million" Skin, that will be available exclusively to everyone who purchases the expansion, and will be available once the expansion arrives at May 26.

Also, the new Stages, the Stage Fatalities and the Friendships are also separated from the expansion and will be added for free for everyone, so even if don't buy the expansion, you will still receive them via the free update. Only the story mode extension, the new characters and the new skins will be included in the expansion.

Also, those who order the expansion on the PlayStation 4 will receive a new main menu screen theme featuring Raiden and Liu Kang.

And finally, if you look at the notifications section for MK11, you will see a new message promoting the Aftermath expansion, and at the end of it, it says that "players will have to decide who they can trust and who they must defeat with fate on the line. Forge a new history".
MK11 Aftermath Split Ending Possibility
As you probably remember, the original MK11 story mode ended in a split ending that gave 3 different options (2 good endings and 1 bad ending) and thanks to the announcement trailer that we got today, we now know which good ending was the canonical one (the one with Liu Kang and Raiden at the Chaotian Age stage). Now with this notification, this could mean that the story mode extension will have yet another split ending. Only time will tell however, we will have to wait and see.

Mortal Kombat Is Now In The Video Game Hall Of Fame!

by Roy Arkon on May 4, 2019 :: 0
Great news to all Mortal Kombat fans!

The Mortal Kombat franchise has officially entered the World Video Game Hall of Fame this past week. On Twitter, both Ed Boon and John Tobias, the Co-creators of the franchise, came on give their honored gratitude.

Here is the full statement PBS:

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — “Mortal Kombat,” the blood-and-guts arcade game that triggered Congressional hearings and age-level game ratings, was inducted Thursday into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, along with “Colossal Cave Adventure,” ”Super Mario Kart,” and the ubiquitous “Solitaire” game built into Microsoft Windows.

The 2019 inductees were honored for their impacts on video gaming and pop culture, and their popularity over time and across countries.

“Mortal Kombat” quickly raised alarms when it launched in 1992, with critics taking aim at a feature giving players the gory choice of whether to kill by decapitating an opponent or ripping out their heart.

“Instead of enriching a child’s mind, these games teach a child to enjoy inflicting torture,” Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Connecticut, said in 1993 when opening a congressional hearing on video game violence that featured scenes from the game. Amid a national conversation about the impact of video violence on kids, the industry established the Entertainment Software Rating Board in 1994 to assign parent-friendly age ratings to games.

“Beyond its controversial content and role in triggering debate about the role of violent video games in society, ‘Mortal Kombat’s’ compelling gameplay, iconic characters and many sequels have kept players coming back again and again,” Digital Games Curator Andrew Borman said in a news release.

Mortal Kombat 11” launched last week.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame is housed at The Strong museum in Rochester and recognizes individual electronic games of all types — arcade, console, computer, hand-held and mobile.

While anyone can nominate a game, the 4-year-old hall chooses inductees with input from journalists, scholars and others with video game expertise.

“Microsoft Solitaire” was honored for helping fuel the growth of today’s popular casual gaming market. Since debuting in 1991 on Windows 3.0, the electronic version of the centuries-old card game has been installed on more than 1 billion computers around the world, according to The Strong.

“The game proved that sometimes analog games can be even more popular in the digital world and demonstrated that a market existed for games that appeal to people of all types,” said Jeremy Saucier, assistant vice president for electronic games and interpretation.

“Super Mario Kart” was released in 1992 and put the popular Super Mario Bros. characters into go-karts.

“It invited friends, family and gaming fans of all ages along for an unforgettable ride that has made it the longest-running racing series in gaming history,” said Julia Novakovic, an archivist at The Strong.

The 1974 “Colossal Cave Adventure” was recognized for laying the foundation for a genre of fantasy and adventure games, despite having no graphics and relying on players typing rudimentary computer commands like “get lamp.”

World Video Game Hall of Fame officials said they fielded thousands of nominations for the Class of 2019 from more than 100 countries and narrowed the finalists to a field of 12. The others in the running were: “Candy Crush Saga,” ”Centipede,” ”Dance Dance Revolution,” ”Half-Life,” ”Myst,” ”NBA 2K,” ”Sid Meier’s Civilization” and “Super Smash Bros. Melee.”

Author's opinion: Congratulations to Mortal Kombat, to Ed Boon and John Tobias, and to the whole team of NetherRealm Studios for making the greatest Fighting Game series of all time that has offered more from every possible angle then any other franchise in the genre. That was well deserved, you all have earned it!

Ed Boon Teases Shang Tsung For Mortal Kombat 11 And More

by Roy Arkon on Mar 7, 2019 :: 0
Two weeks ago, we reported that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is teasing Shang Tsung who he portrayed in previous Mortal Kombat media for Mortal Kombat 11, and it was probably only a matter of time before Ed Boon would go for a tease of his own. MK's co-creator and head of NetherRealm Studios has posted this Tweet with a GIF of Tagawa under the role of Shang Tsung.

Also, during the MK11 story trailer that was posted yesterday, we can see for a moment a group of people being hanged by ropes while their souls being drained.
MK11 Hanged People
As you might remember, one of the stages introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was the Nethership, and Mortal Kombat: Deception introduced the Nethership Interior as a separated one. According to MK lore, the ship's main duty is to carry captives and even the mummified remains of Onaga the Dragon King's lost army back to Shang Tsung's Palace in Outworld. Prisoners serve the remainder of their lives in slavery, only to surrender their souls to Shang Tsung when they die. And it does look like the Nethership is making a comeback in MK11 as seen in the screenshot below, which means that the hanged people might be indeed Nethership prisoners.
Possible Nethership Return In MK11
All of those hints further indicating the possible comeback of the first ever MK final boss for MK11. We will see if they would indeed lead up to this.
