Boon With More Mortal Kombat Original Games Stories

by Roy Arkon on Oct 14, 2021 :: 0
On the way to the 30th anniversary of the Mortal Kombat series, and as a continuation to the the Scorpion GET OVER HERE! story by Ed Boon, the man and the legend shares more original MK MK games stories. Those are related to the voice acting in the games, not just for Scorpion's Spear move but for other characters as well.
And in that same Twitter thread, Boon also shares that Guinness Book of World records recognized his "GET OVER HERE!" and "COME HERE!" lines for Scorpion as the “longest serving video game voice actor” in 2010.
Check out the full thread via either Tweet.

Origins Of Dan Forden's In-Game Lines Revealed

by Roy Arkon on Sep 29, 2021 :: 0
Dan Forden has been an integral part of the Mortal Kombat series since the very beginning, being the sole music composer up to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, continuing to compose tracks all the way to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, and appearing out of nowhere with his iconic "Toasty!" line in the games themselves since Mortal Kombat II.

It turns out though, that Forden actually had more then one line in the games. A Twitter user asked Ed Boon and John Tobias what is the origin behind the "Foul Ball" line during the Dead Pool Stage Fatality in MK2, and Boon replied that it is actually Forden's voice, originally being said in a negative context and taken into a positive one.
Then someone else came in to ask what was the Origin of Dan Forden's Toasty line, and that's when a long time MK fan Tabmok 99 stepped in, posting an old video from 2011 with Forden himself answering the question, revealing that it came from taunting Boon during game time with the phrase "You're toast", which got shortened into "Toasty".
Boon of course added one more detail, saying that there are a lot more stories like this from such times.
Those are really interesting stories on how the MK series has been evolved and added all those little things that made it what it is today, and Forden surely use a big part of it in terms of the audio presentation of the series, and in more ways than one.

The Mortal Kombat Encyclopedia Is Finally Being Made

by Roy Arkon on Jun 29, 2021 :: 0
After a long journey of 6 years, and after a long while with no updates, it has now confirmed that the Mortal Kombat Encyclopedia, also known as the The Kombat Kompendium, is now finally being made.

As a matter of fact, the highly requested book was already being put online for backing up on Kickstarter a few weeks ago, and the MK community in less than an hour already managed to back up the project way beyond it's pledging goal (and I mean by a LARGE amount), but it was quickly taken down by Warner Bros. via copyright strike. Now it seems that this issue has been resolved, and the project is now back online.

Unfortunately, due to the project now being online for the second time, some of the pledging rewards that backers can get from pledging are no longer available due to already being rewarded to previous backers. So if you want to back up the project, keep this in mind.

Here is a video from UnCagedGamez, one of the partners who supported the The Kombat Kompendium project, with all of the details explained for backing this project up.
If you wish to back up the The Kombat Kompendium click here.

by Roy Arkon on Apr 22, 2021 :: 0
The 24th annual DICE Awards from the The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences are in the history books, recognizing various video games in various genres and area for their innovation, creativity and storytelling in such genres and areas. The Mortal Kombat and series has a plethora of awards from that ceremony, as it own the Fighting Game of the Year Awards from this event with Mortal Kombat: Deception (2005), Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) (2012), Mortal Kombat X (2016) and most recently, Mortal Kombat 11 (2020, last year). Injustice 2 also has an award from that ceremony, as it won that same award in 2018.

And now, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, the latest update to MK11. has added another award for the MK series in general and this ceremony in particular, as it won the best Fighting Game of the Year award for 2021. The other nominees this year were Granblue Fantasy Versus, Them's Fightin' Herds, and EA Sports UFC 4 (and yes, they put combat sports games in that category as well).

Kahlief Adams, the judge who gave MK11U the award, couldn't contain the joy of giving such award for his favorite fighting game and shared it on Twitter.
Ed Boon of course came in to thank for the award on behalf of everyone from NetherRealm Studios on Twitter, as well as during the ceremony itself in which he also congratulated all of the other nominees for the award this year.
Congratulations to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games for winning yet another prestigious award.

Shawn Kittelsen On The Creation Of MK11U's Story

by Roy Arkon on Jan 22, 2021 :: 0
The History Behind the Warrior has once again invited to his channel Shawn Kittlesen, writer of the Mortal Kombat XL Comic and co-writer of the stories of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and Injustice 2. In this video, Kittelsen reveals the full process making the MK11U story, what is needed to be tackled on to make the story what it is, and some of the scrapped, cancelled ideas for the story as well as why they didn't make the cut.

Important note: Please do not take this video as what MK11U should've been or could've been, but instead a way to learn and know how NetherRealm Studios make these games and what are the ideas tossed around on the cutting room table!

Check out the full video below, enjoy:
Author's opinion: It's extremely interesting to hear the process of making the story for a Mortal Kombat game, and it's really crazy how many ideas they pitch for the story, and that they already start work on their stories like 3 years before the game releases, and how many things they need to take into consideration while doing all of them justice (no pun intended) without hurting any of them. MK11U's story was surely a successful and a fantastic one like all the stories that came before it, and now we can all see how and why.
