Mortal Kombat 4 - Glitches

(This section contains 22 MK4 Glitches)

Arcade, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64

Arcade Glitches

Reiko's Orb Glitch:

Choose Reiko as your fighter. Try to break the arms of your opponent three times in a row. On the last time Reiko will jump away from the opponent. He will fall on the ground and will make an orb. The "Maximum Damage" will appear.

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Two Men Down:

It's almost impossible to time this on purpose: if your opponent hits you with a move that knocks you down (but you still have more energy left) at exactly the same time you hit him with his dying hit, you will be lying dead on the floor and not be able to do a Fatality, but still be announced as the winner while you lie flat on the ground. It's not a draw since you still have more energy left, but you can't move.

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Use Background Objects Like Weapons:

1st Way: In a 2-player game at Goro's Lair, The Tomb, or The Well, choose Tanya and play against any character. Enter the "Weapon Kombat" KK (002-002) at the VS screen so that you can't drop your weapon. Throw Tanya's boomerang and jump when it's on its way back so you'll drop it. Now pick up an object that's on the ground (depending on which stage you're on). The object will act as a normal weapon in your hands since you won't drop it. You will, however, drop it when you get hit.

2nd Way: Fight on arena that has background pickable objects (Goro's Lair, The Tomb, or The Well). And try to pick and throw one with D + Run + StepIn. If you do this correctly your fighter will end up holding the object as a normal weapon.

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Stuck In The Floor:

Use a weapon that can make your opponent hit the camera. Perform this move while you and your opponent are in the corner and you will see them sink in the floor. If you now keep hitting your opponent while he holds down Block, he will remain stuck in the floor.

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Stuck In a Wall/Object:

Perform Raiden's Teleport or Sub-Zero's Ice Clone while in the corner and while your opponent is walking toward you. After the move you may find yourself stuck an the wall or in an arena object.

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Acid Bubbles U-Turn:

If you're using Reptile and you Acid Spit (Down - Forward - HP) just when your opponent is jumping over you, the first half of the bubbles will be directed at your opponent's original position, while the rest after it will be going the opposite direction (the side your opponent has jumped to).

Note: Also works in the PC, PlayStaion and N64 versions.

PC (Windows) Glitches

Note: The Arcade Glitches:  Reiko's Orb Glitch, Two Men Down, Use Background Objects Like Weapons, Stuck In The Floor, Stuck In a Wall/Object, Acid Bubbles U-Turn work on PC too.

The No Menu Glitch:
This glitch "works" only with the original Mortal Kombat 4.exe

Beat the game and hit start (1 by default) and exit the match.

The start screen will appear, and now you will notice that the menu bars are gone.

If you begin a new game you will see that the menus are not the only one missing thing.

Froze The Wrong Costume Glitch:

If you're using Sub-Zero or using his Ice Scepter and your opponent is wearing his/her third outfit (or even second if it's noticeably different other than color, such as Sub-Zero or Liu Kang), freeze him/her. Notice that it appears as though your opponent was frozen while wearing his/her first outfit instead.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Wrong Clone Glitch:

If you're using Sub-Zero and are wearing your second outfit (unmasked), or you're using Shinnok and mimicking Sub-Zero, doing the Ice Clone move will create an ice statue of a masked Sub-Zero (his 1st and 3rd costumes) instead of an unmasked Sub-Zero or Shinnok.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Big Heads Shrink Glitch:

When you've used the Big Head mode Kombat Kode (321-321), the players' heads will shrink back to normal size when it is severed by a Fatality such as a decapitation or explosion (For example do Raiden shock fatality).

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

A Skull Under a Skull:

When you're wearing Scorpion's 3rd costume (gray with skull exposed), Breathe Fire (Down - Forward - LP) to Scorpion take off his skull to reveal another skull underneath before breathing fire (the removed skull will appear as his normal black and yellow mask). This also happens if you do his first Fatality.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Fire From The Forehead:

Pick Scorpion in a 2-player game and enter the Big Head mode Kombat Kode (321-321). Breathe Fire or do his first Fatality to see the fire coming out of his oversized-skull's forehead.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Big Headed Reiko Through The Camera:

Using Reiko in Big Head Mode (321-321), do his Spinning Teleport move (Back - Forward - LK) to see an amazing graphical glitch with the camera during the spin animation.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

Small Acid Bubbles:

If you're using Reptile in Big Head Mode (321-321), his acid bubbles (spit them using Down - Forward - HP) appear small.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and N64 versions.

No Spikes On Shinnok's Face:

There are sometimes no spikes on Shinnok's face when he's dying, in the PSX and Windows 95 versions. This doesn't always happen, and never happens at all in the N64 version.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion version.

Sonya And Goro In Silence:

During a match between Sonya and Goro, some of Sonya's high-pitched yells will cause the background music to stop.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion version.

CPU Gets Up Too Fast:

In a fight against a CPU opponent, using the Downward Slash with any weapon that has it (LP when holding Kai's Ghurka Knife, etc.) will cause the CPU opponent to fall and appear to just "teleport" back to his/her feet.

Note: Also works in the PlayStaion and Nintendo 64 versions.

PlayStation Glitches

Note: The Arcade Glitches:  Reiko's Orb Glitch, Two Men Down, Use Background Objects Like Weapons, Stuck In The Floor, Stuck In a Wall/Object, Acid Bubbles U-Turn, the PC glitches: Froze The Wrong Costume Glitch, Wrong Clone Glitch, Big Heads Shrink Glitch, A Skull Under a Skull, Fire From The Forehead, Big Headed Reiko Through The Camera, Small Acid Bubbles, No Spikes On Shinnok's Face, Sonya And Goro In Silence, CPU Gets Up Too Fast  work on PlayStation too.

Invisible Fighter:

Pick 2on2 and let player one choose two scorpions. Let player one win round one. In round two kill the first scorpion and when the second scorpion comes out, left the first character on danger for player 2, then make this combo: HP, HP, Harpoon, p2 next character will be invisible.

Frozen Body Disappears:

When you freeze either Quan Chi or Shinnok, their frozen self will be invisible. This also happens if Shinnok is impersonating Sub-Zero and does the Ice Clone move (the clone will not be visible).

Nintendo 64 Glitches

Note: The Arcade Glitches:  Reiko's Orb Glitch, Two Men Down, Use Background Objects Like Weapons, Stuck In The Floor, Stuck In a Wall/Object, Acid Bubbles U-Turn, the PC glitches: Froze The Wrong Costume Glitch, Wrong Clone Glitch, Big Heads Shrink Glitch, A Skull Under a Skull, Fire From The Forehead, Big Headed Reiko Through The Camera, Small Acid Bubbles, CPU Gets Up Too Fast work on Nintendo 64 too.

No Spiral In 2on2 Shinnok Death:

If you beat the game in 1-player 2-on-2 Kombat mode, Shinnok (or his partner, whoever you beat in the last round) falls into blackness, there's no spiral or fire in the animation.

Big Headed Endings:

This isn't really a bug, but it's a fun little effect to see. In a 2-player game, enter the Big Head Mode Kombat Kode (321-321) and don't continue with the losing player. Now finish the game, the characters in the ending will appear with big heads, since they're realtime animations in the N64.
