Kevin Tancharoen Leaves the Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot

Post by Gambid »

Kevin Tancharoen, the director of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy series and the Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot has announced on Twitter that he is leaving the Mortal Kombat franchise after working on it for the past 3 years:
Kevin Tancharoen rose to popularity among the Mortal Kombat fans, after accidentally releasing his Mortal Kombat short Mortal Kombat Rebirth on YouTube. The clip quickly gathered millions of views and eventually led to a job at Warner Bros, where he directed the first and the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and was working on a movie reboot:
The details which led to him leaving the project are currently unknown. How this will affect the production of the new movie and the possible third season of the series is also not clear.

Facts of life. What is interesting is what caused him to leave. Was it entirely his decision or did the studio helped. Maybe Legacy Season 2 did not performed as well as expected.

...and costumes in Season 2 WTF?? (yeah i know that is reboot) Only good one was Scorpion's, Kenshi, Kitana. I think they need back to roots of this legendary universe. I hope in Season 3, if will be any, costumes can be little more close to classic ones!

I remember an interview that Kevin said when warner called him to make MK Legacy 1 he said i was woried because i said what they want from me. Like that he was afraid for his copyrights. So i think warner saw that MK legacy and rebirth was a hit among fans and i think they fired Kevin to put their own persons to the franchise. I hope season 3 and the movie will be out in the next years btw.

I just hope this decision won't change the direction of the movie to the worse. I mean we saw his work and knew what to expect. Now with a new director? Im worried about the future. Sure S2 was pretty bad, but it can get even worse.

Changing the director usually means exactly this. What the change will be, we can never know, but the new director will definitely bring something from himself to the project.

well, bad "news"
am i the only one, who liked the s02 better than the s01 ? the s01 was a bit boring for me, s02 had (more) action (s01 had enough as well)

btw.. im not that hardcore MK fan (i only played with MK SM, and MKKE) so i wasn't upset about things like costumes (except with Ermac's costume)

No, you are not the only one.

Btw, there is a development on this situation and Kevin might still do Season 3, stay tuned as I am working on getting the news online ASAP. Might still take a few days though as I have a lot of information on my hands.
