Mortal Kombat: Rebirth

Post by Gambid »

Two days ago a mysteries 8 minutes video clip appeared on YouTube. It has the title Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. It was uploaded with absolutely no additional information and caused a tremendous confusion and excitement both, among the fans and the press. Theories started to fly around the internet that this is a trailer for the third movie or even a trailer for Mortal Kombat 9. The fact that the video shows real and well known actors only helped things get developed in this directions. The situation became a lot more clear when actress Jeri Ryan who plays FBI Agent Sonya Blade in this video posted the following messages on her Twitter page:

It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film.

More MK FAQs: I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was. And I'm not sure how you can contact WB...

So, the video is an idea of reimagining the Mortal Kombat universe for a new movie. The director, Kevin Tancharoen wanted to pitch his vision to Worner Bros. and probably get a funding for the project. The video shows several Mortal Kombat characters, including Jackson Briggs, Scorpion, Reptile, Johnny Cage, Baraka and Sonya Blade and mentions, shows photos of two more, Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung.

The story is set in 2010 in Deacon Cityand the bad guys (Reptileand Baraka) are shown as a homicidal maniacs and killers. They, just like all other characters are humans and poses absolutely no extraordinary powers.

But, enough talking, lets see the video:
Here is some cast and crew information:
Director: Kevin Tancharoen
Jackson Briggs: Michael Jai White
Scorpion: Ian Anthony Dale
Reptile: ???
Johnny Cage: Matt Mullins
Baraka: Lateef Crowder
Sonya Blade: Jeri Ryan

We also made a few screencaptures from the Full HD version of the video to show you all the characters that appeared in this video.

Thank the maker that this is only a pitch. When the rumors started that this was a trailer for the next MK movie I was about to just give up on the whole franchise. So yeah, as you can guess I hate the pitch, and as fellow MK nerds I am sure you know why.

they screwed up Scorpion Baraka Reptile, they are not normal people :(
Scorpion is Undead and he doesn't have a face
Reptile was Human Than his Reptilian Skin appeared(or something like that)
Baraka is the Tarkatans' Leader no a doc
and where are Jax's Metal Arms
Shang Tsung isn't a business man
and i'm imagining what they are going to do with the others

This is just a director's pitch as it seems, but as i said, i'd rather watch this few more times than MK Annihilation one more time lol

to be honest this may be just a vision of the rebirth of mortal kombat but the fact that in mk reptile whas from Zatera baraka was a tarkata scorpion yea he was undead but this may be something difrent if u remember the ending from scorpion on mk 2 it has some clue to that a bit but the fact that it is somehow a mk pitch i think it is ok for the start but it ignores the allmost whole mk universe when it comes to some kombatants
Let Mortal Kombat Begin

The fact that the clip landed on YouTube can only tell us one thing. It was an unsuccessful pitch.

Not defending the short, but you cannot compare an 8 minutes video clip with a whole feature film.
