Kobra's Ending

So Kira gets turned into a god of death. Pretty obviouse where boon ripped that from, would have been less clear if he had chosen any other character to become the God of Death but Kira...
Kira and Gods of Death... Where have I heard of a Kira being associated with a God of Death before? I'm sure that combination is familiar.
