Problems and Changes during Development

Post by Gambid »

How much do you guys know about the development of this game and its really tragic fate. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is the game that received the worst reviews. The only game that met more negativity was Mortal Kombat: Advanced if I am not mistaken.

yeah, because John Tobias left and took a lot of other workers with him. When he left, the project was halfway done and was rushed to completion to meet its deadlines. Sonya had been taken due to time constraints. Had she been in the game, it could have been good, but NOOOOOO it ended up to be a piece of crap. I think Mortal Kombat Advance was the one where Kitana, Smoke, and Ermac had the exact same fatality in which, they would simply uppercut the person and all we see is a few bloody bones, am I not mistaken?

They did that in UMK3 also. It's all about the market out there these days. As for MK Advance, that game was so glitched up. You could beat the AI even on the hardest difficulty by running up to them and punching them to death. Yeah, that's no fun. The combos programmed don't work half the time and the list could go on and on.

Kabal was also going to be included in the game and John Tobias originally envisioned a much bigger game. However after he and a lot of others left Midway, the company gave Special Formces to another non Midway team to finish and released the game for $20.

Mortal Kombat: Advance was not developed by Midway as well.

Almost every title with the exception of Mortal Kombat 9 and probably Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was rushed because Midway needed it and the team had no choice.

How was Deception rushed?

Well the gameplay is so unbalanced that no one wanted to take the game seriously. Same thing happened with Armageddon. Each of the two games used enormous amount of Content from the previous game. They just didn't have the time. Not to mention that non of these games were actually well polished.

But this is about Special Forces. Do you guys have any pictures from the old game?

The development was troubled to say the least. I've had a FAQ on my site for some time now, which shows what was in the game, what may have been planned and the odd things still left in there.

I'm still messing around with the game, as I'm sure that there is still content left to be uncovered.

Nice pdf Document.

I have also tons of things prepared for the next update of the section. But who knows when I will have the time to do it. A person must prioritize. Are you Mechi of the Anals Of Mortal Kombat? I ask because you said "my site".

It would have been interesting to see what kind of success the original would have had.
Because one thing has not changed a lot and that's the graphics, and they do not look that good.

Yes, I am. I'm working on digging into MKSF a lot more, as it seems that there's material still left in there. Hope to at least get access to a deleted character or two.

That would really be great. I would really love to start working on this section of the site, but there are so many things I need to do before that and the updates doesn't seem to end.

There is so much new stuff.

I really hope that the MKSF forum will develop further.
