Reading MK2 .gra files

Post by S-Val »

Hi guys.
I've got my hands on a MK2 game. All of its graphics is obviously contained in .gra files. So far I've been unable to find an utility to handle these. File-ext searchers do not return any useful results. Still, the pictures have been packed someway, so there should be a way to unpack these.
If a converter, extractor or reader is known please respond.

i guess you are talking about the pc dos version, and afaik there is no way to open the .gra files.

still you can try Microsoft Graph 97 or 2000 but i dunno if it will work.

The MK2 .gra file extension has nothing to do with the Microsoft .gra extension.

Unfortunately it does not have anything in common even with MSFS files.

But there should be converters from these times, I just can't find one. I tried renaming the file to .raw and trying editing it with Photoshop -- but even if the size was set to 320x200 it just kept showing nonsence (black screen with lines).

This .gra format was probably developed for the game itself and there are probably no converters.

Still it looks like that content is available on the internet (there are many MK2 avatars, there is MK project with MUGEN engine which has some of the MK2 graphics) -- so someone should have found a way to unpack it.
One of the main questions is who was that guy

there is a cheat file for mame that disable the backgrounds, so you can easy just snapshot the characters/backgrounds and then make them as a transparent pngs/gifs or whatever. snes and genesis emulators also have that feature.

I see, so they've just grabbed the characters and bg's from screen, right? That's sad.
Thanks for the info though.
