Isn't Working Great

So I used to work at a grocery store in Hyannis, Massachusetts called Starmarket and I used to think what could be worse then this. Well I found out, working at a grocery store in Decatur, Alabama called Publix.

I don't understand a single word anyone says to me. I had one person ask me, "I would like to buy a bag of ***." This was on my second day of work at the place, don't know if I told you guys cause I was still on the forums back then. Well he wanted a bag of ice. Well I got another one, someone asked, "Do you sell ladders here?" Okay so I was thinking this is a grocery store so no, but I just kept a confused look on my face. The guy wanted a lighter for smoking... Then I got someone who said, "I'm looking for a braid." And of course being the smart*** that I am I pointed her to the hair place across the street. But apparently she wanted a loaf of bread...

Northerns + Southerns = Communication Problems

Okay so we've been losing a lot of employees and what most late night cashiers have to do is front face the store (pulling everything on the shelf forward). And sometimes we don't get out until 2am and most of the time we start our shifts at 2pm...so there's a lot of 12-hour shifts going around. *has done plenty*

And well a week ago one of the younger employees (okay I'm considered one of the youngers ones cause I'm 21, but he's 17.) and I were working in the freezer section and he knocked a box of frozen solid ice cream off the top of the shelf and it landed on my left shoulder. Felt like a brick hit me. Still hurts, feels like someone is stabbing me in the back when I lay down...have to get it checked.

Also this place is boring, I used to have crazy stories from work up in MA that I'd share here and well nothing really crazy has happened. So anyone else have something to add to the topic?

Well what you've said sounds crazy enough lol. It sounds to me like you working in hell. And i know how it feels, when you just can't god damn speak to anyone who understands you!

lol, joker, it's funny some things that happen in shops, this one time, at ASDA (no american pie related pun intended) my cousin asked some teenager if they sold any porn, and they ended up going into a 10 minuite talk about it, eventually the bloke recomennded a shop near there, says he goes there all the time, and i just said to my cousin "i'm surrounded by perverts <_< "

Well, my standards for crazy is high after everything that happened in Starmarket. I mean I watched co-workers being arrested, a cashier lite a girl's hair on fire, some customer went to bathroom in the store and not in the bathroom, a handicapped sign caught on fire, there was a gas leak in which our manager at the time gave me his credit card and said get whatever you want across the street. Did I leave anything out?

You gotta love the stupid questions of things such as ladders when you're a grocery store...no that would be a hardware store or somewhere I still like my job and have been there a year and got promoted but yeah..some silly things and dumb people I'm sorry....but I never thought it really possible but sadly it's true. A lot of impatient people too. I've found I had to repeat myself many times.

Yeah I just got promoted like a week ago and I begin training for my new position next week. So yeah I was talking with on of the managers and he told me, "Whatever you do, if you know the answer to the question, do not send the phone call back to us."

He told me at one point one of the Office Staff people picked up the phone and the person on the line simply asked, "When does the store close?"

The person running the office actually said, "I'm gonna have to call the manager, please hold."

How can you not know when your store closes? I mean sure if you're new...but to be in Office Staff you need to have been working in the store for a good amount of time...:huh:
