PlayStation 2 Emulation Progress: MK: DA Playable

Post by Gambid »

The latest version 0.9 of the most complete PlayStation 2 emulator, PCSX2 has been released two days ago. The authors have fixed a lot of things in the emulation and now even more games boot, run and look better then ever.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was one of the first games to even show something on this emulator in its early stage of development. But unlike others it couldn't pass the first loading screen during all this years. But now, with the current release of PCSX2 the game not only passes through the loading screen, but it even goes ingame and is almost completely playable. The speed is the only thing that remains a problem. The games runs at:

Loading 20 - 25 fps
2D - 15 - 40 fps
3D - 1,5 - 2 fps

The game enters both Arcade and Konquest mode.

Here we have some nice screenshots taken from the emulator:

Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks are reported working too, but how far do they go we cant say yet. Expect an update on the status of these two games very soon. If you want to test the game yourself, then PlayStation 2, here you can download the emulator.

Um... Gambid, I have a question. How big are the PS2 roms? I mean, they must be HUGE!

They are not roms, they are isos. And I don't know. I use an original Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance DVD to test the emulator. But I suppose somewhere between 2 and 4 GB.

@Finrato: The pack Iso of MK DA is around 2,5 GB :D but you can get rip without music and intros which is around 800 MB ;)

@Gambid: The MK D works on PCSX2 too....goes ingame and it looks sweet as MK DA :)

This was tested by PCSX2 betatester GeneralPlot with PCSX2 0.9 beta few weeks ago. The fps are almost same as in MK DA

This was tested by some user of Ngemu forum with official PCSX2 0.9 realese. The colours are wrong because his graphic card doesn`t support Pixel Shader

Oh... I forgot about the ISO thing.

I have MK Gold, but it needs a 2 GhZ computer to run.

Sigh...

Hey, I'm going to buy and or rent Deception, and I have a Gamcube emulator, so maybe I could manage that.

Well, yeah, it works pretty good. I only have a 500 Mhz computer, though.

Sorry Gambid.

Hmm.... I think if I tried to get a PS2 emulator to work, my compy would crash. Sigh...

So, yeah. I couldn't run any PS2 games on my computer.

By the way, for any one, I have an Xbox emulator and a Gamcube emulator, so, we will have some news on that soon! Finrato, out! (I'm really sorry for going of topic again!)

The region seems to be important with Pcsx2 .
Games of a certain region work and same game but different region crashes.

Official compatibility list says :
MK Deception (U) SLUS 208.81 only goes in menus but Mortal Kombat 1 - Deception Premium Pack Bonus Disc (U) SLUS 210.81 is playable.
This means MKD is playable or only the MK1 bonus game ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what is the region code of the tested MKDA ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I tried a 797 MB MKDA rip (SLUS 204.23) and it goes ingame ,
i "fought" a round at 0.88 fps
( Pc Specs ..Hold on tight  1.4 ghz/256 ram/Gf2Mx400 64mb)

PAL (Europe) - German Edition.

No, this means that the Premium Pack version of MKD is playable. From what I saw I cannot agree that the normal version can't pass the menus, but I haven't tested it personally.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance runs at 0.88 and not the "normal" 1,5 - 2 fps, because of your PC Specs. We this video you should be happy that the emulation even runs.
