Steam version no longer saving

Post by TheManuel »

Just like the title says. I can't save anything anymore, including controller settings, which is how I found out in the first place. I even tried this possible workaround without success:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 3282989373

I have also checked for read-only save files, but they aren't.

Is anybody familiar with this problem and has some guidance?

Resolved by deleting ...\Steam\userdata\<userid>\237110\remotecache.vdf
I thought I had tried that already and had not worked, but I tried so many things that I can no longer tell.
IMPORTANT:
I later found out that there is a subtlety to this: the file must be deleted while Steam is shutdown.

The issue came back after the first time I fixed it, and I eventually found out that the cause was my complicated launch script setup with different save file copies for different purposes. This is unlikely to happen to others, but the fix above my work for different problems that cause the same symptom.
