How to extract 3D Models from the game files

Post by _ix_ »

This method to extract 3D models from the game files is not difficult to follow. It requires some tools that I will link, or attach here.

The 3D Model manipulation requires the use a modeling tool, such as blender, and plugins to import smd files. Similarly you will need to have knowledge of meshes and texture files, if you want to play with customizing the 3D Model.

  • Prepare a working folder for your files (e.g. <local HD>:\temp)
  • Download the extraction tool, created by id-daemon, from the ZenHAX forums - https://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?p=47937#p47937. Uncompress it on your work folder.
  • This will create a file called mk11_model_morph_mirror.exe in your work folder.
  • Copy the library oo2core_5_win64.dll from the MK11 Binary folder, to your work folder.
  • Copy the XXX files and corresponding PSF files you want to extract your models from, and paste them in your work folder. For example, if you want Sonya's model, copy the files GEARASSETS_SON_ScriptAssets.PSF and GEARASSETS_SON_ScriptAssets.XXX. These files are located in your MK11 Asset folder.
  • Use a command line or just drag the XXX file on top of the mk11_model_morph_mirror.exe. This will start the extraction process and it will create folders for the specific objects (folders models, skeletalmesh.raw, staticmesh.raw, statics, textures will be created).
  • The extraction process may take some time for longer files. Once completed you will have the folders above with all the necessary files, as well as description files (txt) that contain information of the extracted files / package.
  • There will also be a file called INPUT_FILENAME.unp that contains information (such as music, and other textures). You can use Ravioli tools on this file to extract audio and other files.
  • In your models folder, you will have smd files that contain the 3D objects. You will need a tool like blender, with an Add-on that will allow you to import and manipulate SMD files (e.g. blender tools).
Links for tools: That's the process overall, but because one image speaks a thousand words... here's a YT video that may help.

Have fun.

Thanks. Although I am mainly using tools that others, more talented than me, (like you) have done.

Great tutorial, really appreciate it man.
If anyone imports the models to blender and the meshes look all jagged, it's because they all default to Auto Smooth on under the vertex settings. Turning it off gets rid of that, but you may need to add some holding edges to some parts otherwise you'll lose a lot of details in some components.

That's a great tip, thanks.

If anyone has any more tips, feel free to add to this thread.

If you can provide a PS4 image with a game image, maybe we can give it a go.

I know there are other PS4 communities that mod several games. Maybe MK11 is also being worked on?

The process to repack in XXX is not straight forward and requires usage of UE tools that are somewhat sketchy to use without them being official.

If and when I get a good process with "legal" tools, I'll make another tutorial on how to repack.

Also, know that when trying to go online with modded XXX files, the game desyncs as the other party does not have the correct/same file to load.

You exported to TGA, they have to be DDS.

If using the extracted (original) .DD file it shows this message.
