New Mortal Kombat movie to be developed 2007 and released 2008?
For the last 15 years Mortal Kombat has been the most violent and popular video game all over the world. We remember in 1995 when the first Mortal Kombat film was a hit in America and the sequel which dreadfully dissapointed many fans of the first film. But what happens now in the year 2007/2008? Will there be a new MK film? Will it have a superb storyline like the first? Will it have the popular charactes? Details are below. Written by Kenneth L. Berdeign.

When we last saw Threshold promoting their films in Germany last year, this year they returned with news of their upcoming animation film The Foodfight & news of a new martial art movie based on Mortal Kombat.

We joined Lawrence Kasanoff to the press and asked him a few questions relating to the new films.

MZ: What gave you the impression of creating an animation film with such a large number of American celebrities?
LK: We wanted to do something that will give kids and adults attention to the new film and for the kids to love it. It's a great film indeed.
MZ: When did you start Foodfight's production?
LK: I believe it was the first quater of 2005, at that time I was working on the script for Mortal Kombat 3 and I was in Thailand with the rest of the crew. So I took a break, started drawing some cartoons and made it into a film.
MZ: We've heard that a new MK film is coming. Is that true? What is the name of it?
LK: The new film is coming very soon. Devastation is the official name.
MZ: What is the storyline and will our favourite characters from the 1st film be in it?
LK: The director of Devastation told me to create a new script and a new storyline. Unfortunately Lui Kang and his friends wont be making it. Sub Zero is the new hero and Scorpion is the enemy.
MZ: Is it based in the present or future?
LK: It's a prequel to the first. So it's thousands of years before Liu Kang's time.
MZ: When will you start production for Devastation?
LK: We don't have an exact date. We started 2 years ago but things didn't work out well and so we made Foodfight in 2006. But I'm sure prodution will kick back very soon.
MZ: Why did you make Sub Zero the main character.
LK: I think Sub Zero is a great character as he has links to every Mortal Kombat character. His storyline was great in the games and will be better in the movie.
MZ: Thank you for your time.

No he was just a warrior back then. But in DA he is a Grand Master.

i hope actors like kieth cooke, who's playin my fav charcter....can acctually act a bit better this time round. In the last films some of the actors have been terrible - and just used for the martial arts.

Mortal Kombat gets rebooted?

It's been nearly 5 years since we heard of the 3rd upcoming combat movie Mortal Kombat. There hasn't been any confirmed actors/characters and storylines. But until we heard from Mink today that he has been posting opinions and other brief information about the 3rd movie.

"It's not a sequel, not a prequel, it will be something different that no MK fan would even imagine. The story will be basically getting the "reboot treatment". Me & the Threshold gang are trying to reinvent Mortal Kombat in a way which fans will be amazed at. We've already given the script and draft designs to Midway's MK producer Ed Boon to write comments or anything that needs to be done. I'm currently in talks with Robin Shou & Christopher Lambert about the news. So until then, Rayden is waiting."

The extra information we got from Mink was about the character Rayden who will be appearing in the film. The story is complete however is yet to be shown to the public.
