The New Mortal Kombat: Facts, Rumors And Speculations

Three years have passed since the initial release of Mortal Kombat 9 and fans have been patiently awaiting the next major installment of our beloved fighting game franchise. During all these years, things have been kind of quiet due to the release of last years' Injustice: Gods Among Us. But now things have started to move again, or at least so it would seem. In this final and most expected news recap, we will attempt to summarize all the facts, the rumors and the speculations surrounding the next Mortal Kombat game:

Kiefer Sutherland and Karen Strassman It all began when actor Kiefer Sutherland confirmed his involvement in an upcoming Mortal Kombat game (IGN):

“I did Mortal Kombat, and that's such a huge game, but it’s so not like [MGS5]."

Shortly after that, the voice actress behind Kitana and Mileena listed a supporting role in what she calls Mortal Kombat 2. The listing was of course later removed from her website. The name of the game and the mentioning of Mortal Kombat II Director's Cut by Ed Boon himself sure add to an interesting ideas popping up in our heads.

This story continues with all the clues and hints dropped by creative director Ed Boon, who started surprisingly counting the days to June 2nd, 2014 on Twitter.
This surprised the fans even more, as the date is a week before this years' Electronic Entertainment Expo (June 10-12 2014), on which Netherrealm Studios will be present.

And while we are discussing Twitter, Ed Boon isn't the only one teasing something new. So is motion capture artist Carlos Pesina:

As we come closer to that date more and more Mortal Kombat hints and leaks appear online.

Surprisingly to all AllGamesBeta published what appears to be a teaser poster for a new Mortal Kombat game on Twitter:

Shortly after the release of the poster, the official Mortal Kombat website, the official Facebook page and the Twitter pages of several NetherRealm employees, including creative director Ed Boon's have all adopted a new, redesigned Mortal Kombat dragon logo and the text from the poster:

As time passes, we come to today, when it was discovered that Amazon.co.uk has listed Mortal Kombat X with a place holder release date December 31st, 2015 among its items. The game is listed for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, XBox 360 and XBox One:

Conclusion
This sure is a lot of information for one update. There are a lot of uncertainties. As a matter of fact, nothing is officially confirmed aside from the fact, that we are getting an announcement tomorrow (June, 2nd 2014). According to the latest information, this will happen around 8 AM CDT.

Will a new Mortal Kombat game be announced? It sure looks like it. Will it be a sequel to Mortal Kombat 9 (2011), a remastered Mortal Kombat II, a cross over with another franchise or something completely different? What about the rumored Injustice: Gods Among Us sequel?
