Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Season Of The Cryomancer, Christmas Fatality, Skins and Arena, Quan Chi & Major Issues

Today was supposed to be a happy day for the Mortal Kombat community, as a massive amount of content dropped for Mortal Kombat 1 (2023), including:

• Quan Chi
• Season 3: The Cryomancer for Invasions and Kombat League
• The Christmas Fatality
• Christmas Themed skins for multiple characters in the premium shop
• New items in the shrine
• A third, Christmas themed variation for The GateWay stage

For the moment everything looked great and then several major issues appeared. Invasions progress from Season 2 was not correctly reset, so people could use their currency to empty the seasonal store. This in itself is not a bad thing for players. In addition however, all mesas were completed at 100%, rewarding people all the skins from the mesa upon entry. If this isn't bad enough, people who previously purchased the Seasonal Finishers were denied access to the Winter Finisher unless they pay again.

This and more forced Netherrealm Studio to shut down the Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) servers crippling the game for an undisclosed amount of time, until the issue can be resolved. Solution will have to be found for all profiles who accessed the content so that the players can keep playing.

Shutting down the servers also prevented players on some systems from using their purchased DLC fighters and unlocked kameos / main fighters. A fix for the PlayStation 5 is currently to disconnect from the Internet, which will grant you access to your content.

Until the situation is resolved, there is nothing left but to be patient.

Update
The servers are now back online. We cannot say for sure how long it took but the unavailability was present for at least 8 hours. Invasions is now playable and the Christmas Fatality is now accessible for everyone who purchased the Seasonal Finishers bundle. Players who bought something from the Seasonal Store with the Season 2 currency are, at least as of right now, keeping their purchased items. Make sure to report any issues directly to WBGames, so that these can be addressed.

So, lets use the time and drool a bit all over the content we cannot play (partially at least):

Quan Chi
Quan Chi is awesome and we had a fun time trying to figure out his second Fatality. We failed, but our X community did not. So, here is Quan Chi's second Fatality for you:

Season of The Cryomancer
Netherrealm Studios has released a trailer for the third Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) season showcasing a lot of the new features. Have a look:

The season does look indeed very promising, and we started our Season of the Cryomancer Guide. Not much to see there as the season is unplayable at the moment but we still encourage you to go have a look.

Christmas Themed Skins and a new Arena Variation
The Premium store rotated and, at least briefly, was populated with new Christmas (even though they are not called that in the game) themed skins. Some of these look really great. That is the good news. The bad one is that if you want them all, it will cost you an arm and a leg or 3500 Dragon Krystals (30 to 35 dollars depending on how you are calculating). Have a look:

Netherrealm Studios also added a new Christmas themed variation for The Gateway and here we have a video for you showcasing the arena. Have a look:

The arena looks amazing, more so on an HDR capable display.

And last but definitely not least, there are a lot of other small changes, improvements and bug fixes. Things like the new Special Move for Darrius. You can have a look at the official patch notes right here.

This is a lot and this day could have been great for the Mortal Kombat community, prizes or no prizes. However as hard as the situation is for you, it is 10 times harder for the people developing the game and they are working around the clock, trying to resolve the issues. So, we ask everyone to stay patient and respectful while Netherrealm Studios is trying to fix the problems.

Well whatever this problem was it surly isn't in the game right now, I entered the game and everything was perfectly fine. You need to update the news post.

Regardless, everything looks amazing. The Skins, The Gear pieces, Invasions, Quan Chi, the new Gateway Stage, the Winter Finisher Fatality, everything looks on point. They even managed to fix the slowdowns during Fatalities in Invasions.
