About Noob Saibot
From the Netherealm, Noob Saibot is known as the Master of Shadows because of his shadowy ability, but before his death, he was known as something else. In the first Mortal Kombat game, Sub-Zero's ending states he has been missing after going out on a mission. Sub-Zero's younger brother took the place of his older brother in the Mortal Kombat tournament. The first Sub-Zero actually died and passed on to the Netherealm, where he lost all of his ice powers and gained new abilites. The first Sub-Zero was now known as Noob Saibot, with the powers of a shadow. He had no memory of his previous life, and his soul became darkened. The new Sub-Zero vowed to stop his older brother, Noob Saibot, from corrupting the realms.

Allies and Enemies
Allies - Smoke (before betrayal), Shinnok, Quan Chi, Shao Khan, Brotherhood of the Shadow
Enemies - Ashrah, Smoke (after betrayal), his younger brother Sub-Zero
Note: Smoke is considered to be Noob Saibot's ally/betrayer, because although he is programmed to assist Noob Saibot in his quest, he later refuses to assist him when Noob Saibot faces Ashrah in the Netherealm. It is believed that his soul overcame his programming and rendered him inactive.

Storyline
Although Noob Saibot's story starts much earlier, his first involvement in the games dates from the events of Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. During these tournaments, he was in service of Outworld's emperor Shao Kahn. However, he had actually been sent from the Netherealm by Shinnok, who wished him to spy on the events taking place between Earthrealm and Outworld. However, as the tables turned in favor of the Earthrealm warriors, Noob Saibot switched allegiances and joined the Earthrealm warriors in defeating Shao Kahn. Sensing that his time had come, Shinnok was freed from the Netherealm by Quan Chi and conquered Edenia. Noob Saibot was now in direct service of his overlord. Despite all the careful planning, Shinnok was once again defeated by Raiden's forces and the Brothers of the Shadow were disbanded.

Roaming across the realms, Noob Saibot found Shao Kahn again and was enlisted in his army. A few years later, in the events leading up to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, he appeared out of nowhere during a battle between the armies of Edenia and the Shokan (led by Kitana and Goro) with the Outworld army (lead by Kano). He attacked Goro, and after a fierce fight, the Shokan prince was mortally wounded and was thought to have later died. The war ground to a stalemate.

Noob Saibot slowly changed from a pawn into a player. The Deadly Alliance rose and fell, and Onaga returned to Outworld. Although Noob Saibot showed allegiance to Onaga, in secret he was amassing an army to conquer under his own flag. He was aided in this by Smoke, who Saibot had discovered in the bowels of Kahn's fortress, and he reprogrammed to become a template for an army of cyber-demons.

During Deception, it is revealed that Noob Saibot had not always been a demon from the Netherealm. Rather, in his former life, he was known as Sub-Zero the Elder (6th generation). After he had been murdered by Scorpion, his tainted soul had descended into hell, where he was stripped of his last vestiges of humanity to become fully evil. In Mortal Kombat: Deception, Noob Saibot has an ending where he captures and kills his younger brother (7th generation). His ending is very unlikely to have occurred though, as Ashrah's ending states that she and Noob Saibot met in Mortal Kombat (in which Ashrah won), though it is possible for both endings to have occurred, i.e. Saibot kills Sub-Zero, and then loses to Ashrah. Another reason Saibot's ending is unlikely, however, is that Sub-Zero is a very liked and well established character, and would probably not be killed off by the game's writers.

Trivia
-Noob Saibot is actually 'Boon' and 'Tobias' backwards, named so after the co-creators of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon and John Tobias.

-In Mortal Kombat 3, Noob Saibot is not a fully black 'ninja' palette swap, but is actually a completely black version of Kano, because there are no 'ninjas' in that game. He also has absolutely no special moves but uses some of Kano's combos. It's funny to note, when Noob wins a round, the announcer says, "Kano shows mercy!" This is an obvious programming glitch.

-Noob Saibot's double identity might explain his purpose and might provide the answer to his questionable unknown extended background of Classic Sub-Zero's appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. However, this could still be disputed as the Classic Sub-Zero character in Trilogy has the same identical moves as Sub-Zero did in Mortal Kombat 2; Noob Saibot (as the original Sub-Zero) did not master the move of the ice puddle for example (which Sub-Zero the younger used in the second game). Many simply believe that Classic Sub-Zero's appearance was simply the younger Sub-Zero in his Lin Kuei uniform that he had originally donned on in the Mortal Kombat II. In the Nintendo 64 version of Trilogy, there is only one Sub-Zero who wears the Lin Kuei uniform, but has all of the special moves such as the Ice Clone and the Ice Shower (moves that were of Sub-Zero the younger). It is therefore very difficult to prove that Sub-Zero the Elder was in fact Noob Saibot, when not much information about his past was given until the arrivial of Deception. Until Deception, Noob Saibot's identity and past was shrouded in mystery and very little was known about his past. In reality however, Boon and Tobias were still working on the character.

-It is often disputed of whether there is still good in him in a manner resembling Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. Whether future games will redeem Noob Saibot is uncertain, but it is probable.

-In Mortal Kombat 4, Noob Saibot was a hidden character. One of his alternate costumes showed him resembling the Grim Reaper.

-The use of a paralysis cloud in the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 ports and Mortal Kombat Trilogy gave Noob Saibot a great advantage in this game. The cloud would disable an opponent, including the boss Shao Kahn, from attacking. He also had a lethal combo that could be done by repeatedly pressing the same button four times. Noob has grown to become an immensely popular high-tier character.

-Despite being labelled as a popular character, Noob Saibot has not been featured in many Mortal Kombats- having appeared in Mortal Kombat 2, 3 (as a hidden character), Trilogy and 4 (as a hidden character).

I didn't type all of that, I got it from the website I put at the bottom.

I remember when I first read Classic Sub-Zero's ending about him being "A warrior who has long been missing from a previous Mortal Kombat", I thought he was going to be Kung Lao's ancestor, the origional Kung Lao who was killed by Goro.
