I know that there were past threads about this topic but they were just too old, so I'm making a new one.
I've just found this article about today's parents and kids with MK games and violent games in general. It seems that today's parents have no problem with MKX unlike MK1, more so because that today's parents are the same kids that were playing the old MK games back in the day.
It is really nice to know how MK has become such a culture juggernaut.

Re: Today's parents and kids with Mortal Kombat games
Today's parents are yesterday's kids. Those same kids who played Mortal Kombat despite their parents disapproval. They grew up and did not become serial murderers despite all odds stuck against them. So they look at the situation a lot more relaxed.
However ratings are there for a reason. They warn, they do not command. Kids might react differently to violence in games. So it is up to the parents to decide what is ok for their children and what not.
For example in somme families nudity in the family is ok, for others it is not.
