The Most Informative Mortal Kombat Source on the Web

We are less than a day away from the release of Ermac for every owner of the Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Kombat Pack. Players who do not have the Kombat Pack will have to wait for a week if they want to purchase him separately. To promote the new fighter and all the upcoming changes, Netherrealm Studios released the 8th Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Kombat Kast, focusing on him and a little bit on Mavado, the fourth DLC kameo fighter. In addition we received some updates regarding Invasions Season 5, Kross Play and the general changes coming with the next game patch. Have a look:

Here is a summary of the general changes coming with the new update:

Invasions Season 5

• The Season of the Storms with Raiden as the final boss.
• New Encounter types were added. These include combo trial encounters and mini-games types encounters with specific characters
• More encounters will be optional
• The gateway will be available from the beginning and will not require a particular level

Fighter Updates
Several characters will have new moves added to their arsenal. These include:

• Scorpion
• Rain
• Reptile, who is getting his long distance projectile from Mortal Kombat II
• Shujinko, who will now be able to mimic even more of your opponent's moves.

Online Play

• Kross Play is now available in King of The Hill as well.

As well all know, Mavado, the Hookswords wilder and unique rope user of the Red Dragon clan, is the next Kameo fighter to be add as DLC to Mortal Kombat 1 (2023). This is his first appearance in a Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, which was his 2nd appearance ever, with his only appearance before then was in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, in which he took the place of Kabal as the Hookswords wilder in that game.

Netherrealm Studios and WBGames have just released the gameplay trailer for Ermac and Mavado (Kameo) the fourth batch of DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 (2023). Have a look:
Ermac started his Mortal Kombat journey as rumor in the original Mortal Kombat 1 and was turned into a real playable character several years later in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. In comparison to him, Mavado is one of the original 3D era characters and debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and has since only made one additional appearance in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

From the official press-release:

Ermac is a collection of souls bound together by Quan Chi’s dark magic that are intended to function as a group mind. But that spell is temporarily undone when Ermac is defeated by Mileena and the mind of King Jerrod, deceased ruler of Outworld and one of the souls in Ermac’s collection, takes control and rejoins the royal family, aiding Empress Mileena’s reign. Eventually, the amalgam of souls reestablishes control, and Ermac retreats to Outworld's shadows. No longer Quan Chi's slave, nor bound to the royal family, he must find a future worth fighting for. In the new video, Ermac’s devastating moveset is on full display, including his ability to teleport, levitate, and utilize a legion of souls to grab, lift, and slam opponents to the ground.

The trailer also provides a first look at Mavado, a new DLC Kameo Fighter who can assist during matches with a range of support moves. Mavado will be available as part of the Kombat Pack and standalone purchase in May 2024.

Ermac will be available in early access for owners of the Kombat Pack starting April 16th, 2024 and a week later for everyone else to purchase (April 23rd, 2024), while Mavado will be available in May, 2024.

The official Mortal Kombat Facebook page has just released the official teaser for Ermac, the next DLC character for Mortal Kombat 1 (2023), in an intro dialogue with Kenshi, a very fitting confrontation indeed.

Also, if you slow down the video and look super closely, you can see the upcoming Kameo for the game as well, that is none other than Mavado, making his first appearance in a very long time.

Update April 8th, 2024

Earlier today Ed Boon decided to finally tell us the complete origin story of Ermac, going all the way back to the original Mortal Kombat 1. It is not like we haven't heard it, but never in such a detail, so have a look:

30+ years ago we were working on the very first #MortalKombat game. The game's software, had sections of code that it (theoretically) should never reach/execute. If it did, it incremented a counter that would log the ERROR. We also made a "Game Audits" screen where we could check this counter in arcades.

To keep each log short, I wrote an assembler MACRO that would call all the necessary functions in one line of code. The macro was called ERMAC... short for Error Macro.

Unfortunately or fortunately, we listed the number of ERMACS that occurred directly after the log/number of times players fought against REPTILE, who was a hidden fighter in the first Mortal Kombat.

This (of course) made players speculate that ERMAC was another hidden character, like REPTILE. Soon rumors of ERMAC became stuff of legend with players insisting they fought against him. They didn't.

In Mortal Kombat 2 we made REPTILE a playable fighter and added 3 new hidden fighters: Smoke, Jade and Noob Saibot. But some players were still looking for Ermac.

For MK3 we decided to turn some of the myths into reality, starting with ANIMALITIES. Finally in Ultimate MK3 (running out of kolors) we finally added ERMAC as an actual (red ninja) fighter in the roster.

Over the years he has made a number of appearances in MK games. Now he has a full story/history and is part of the MK lore.

We never (as in ever) would have guessed this red ninja with a ridiculous name would end up such a big part of Mortal Kombat's history and still be kicking over 30 years later! But here we are, as he is about to join the roster of #MortalKombat1

The newest Titan battle was just added to Mortal Kombat 1 (2023)'s Invasions mode. This is Titan Li Mei, and yours truly got a quick guide on how to beat her easily. All you need is to do the following 3 steps:

1) Since Li Mei is an Energy Type character, you need a character that can tank Energy Type damage, which is a Blood Type character like. You can either use Nitara, Havik or Reiko.

2) You need a Relic called the Dragon Egg of Amplification. With this Relic, as long as you have Super Meter, all the damage you take goes to your Meter instead of your health. The drawback is that you can't use any Combo Breakers, however this is a no-issue as Li Mei isn't gonna use any normal long combos, so it doesn't matter anyway.

3) Use the Windbreaker Talisman which leaves a Poison Gas cloud that deals damage-over-time. If you can get catch Li Mei with this at the correct time, either when she is in the corner, when she's stuck in place due to her Titan special moves or both, this can be demolish her health in no-time. However you still need a bit of luck to get the proper timing and position, which is why the other two steps are needed to.

Also, keep in mind that you need to beat Li Mei 6 times to get all of her normal Palettes for her Titan Skin, as well as getting one extra win to get the silver Palette (which is random) and then one more with Li Mei herself in a mirror match to get the gold Palette. Don't worry about the character Type, as long as you keep using the Dragon Egg of Amplification Relic and the Windbreaker Talisman, you should be fine.
