First DLC Characters Revealed: Kenshi And Lady in Red
by Gambid on Mar 30, 2011 :: 21 Comments

In an interview for CVG Mortal Kombat Senior Producer Hans Lo revealed the identities of the first two downloadable characters for the soon to be released game. The two characters are the mysterious Lady in Red, partially revealed by Ed Boon a few months back and Kenshi, the blind swordsman who first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and was one of the most successful new characters in the game. From the article:

The developer told CVG in a recent interview that it doesn't want MK 2011's add-on content to be limited to simple costume or stage additions - and the new characters it's working on will have "all the good stuff".

"They won't be copy and pasted from characters already in the game - they're going to have their own unique fighting styles, moves, fatalities and x-rays - all the good stuff," producer Hans Lo told CVG.

"[The two we're adding] are Kenshi, who players will recognise from previous MK games, and more excitingly we're adding Scarlet.

"Anyone who knows the history of Mortal Kombat will tell you that back in the days of the arcade - when they did just palette swap characters to come up with multiple fighters in the game - there was a glitch in one of the old arcade machines that caused the Jade/Katana/Milena female ninja to glitch and turn red.

"People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn't, it was purely a programming glitch. They've always speculated and in fact it was the fans who named her Scarlet to begin with. She's no longer a glitch - she's an actual character, and she'll be coming pretty soon post-launch."

Another character said to be planned for the fighter is MK2 sub-boss Kintaro. Netherrealm said it'll continue to work on DLC for Mortal Kombat "as long as people are playing it".

The article had since been (re)moved from the website but the google cache is still available.

Thanks to Carlos Contreras, Noob Saibot and all the others for the heads-up on this story.

by Gambid on Mar 14, 2011 :: 7 Comments

Shao Kahn's Coliseum's Environment Bio video has been released:

Click on the image below to watch or to download the video in our videos section:

From the video:

To entertain the denizens of Outworld--and remind them of his brutality--Shao Kahn presides over fighting exhibitions in this enormous Coliseum. The emperor’s throne is positioned at the very center of the structure: the ideal vantage point from which to savor the blood and fear of the kombatants. For these tournaments are no mere sport. Enemies of the empire are routinely cast into the arena to fight for their very lives. The victors are celebrated; the victims have their remains scattered among the spectators, who show their displeasure by hurling the severed heads to the arena floor.

Mortal Kombat Demo 3D Hands-On: What You’ll Get On Wednesday
by Gambid on Mar 5, 2011 :: 2 Comments

A short Hands-On about the upcoming PlayStation 3 version of the Mortal Komnbat (2011) Demo has been published at the PlayStation.Blog. From the article:

Mortal Kombat’s stereoscopic 3D viewing mode is exclusive to the PS3, and I was lucky enough to try it on a massive 60” 3D Sony Bravia. Stereoscopic 3D lends an impressive sense of grandeur and scope — the environments seem to stretch on into infinity but don’t distract from the fighting. “We didn’t want 3D to change the basic mechanics or complicate things needlessly”, Mortal Kombat creative director and series co-creator Ed Boon told me. “Our 3D implementation makes the characters pop from the background a little more, helps you focus on them”. By rendering the fighters in 2D for its stereoscopic 3D mode, Mortal Kombat’s action remains visible even if you’re not wearing 3D glasses. This is a handy detail if you’re playing with a group on a 3D TV and find yourself short of 3D glasses — everyone will be able to play and watch whether they wear 3D glasses or not. If you’re not wearing 3D glasses, the 3D backgrounds will look a bit blurry but the characters will appear crisp and clean.

MK: Songs Inspired by the Warriors - Producer JFK Interview
by Gambid on Mar 4, 2011 :: 2 Comments

IGN.Com sat down for a little chat with JFK, the producer of the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors Album. From the aticle:

IGN: What was your process for selecting the artists?
JFK: We had a long wish list and tried to pair people up with characters that we thought fit their personalities. Some artists knew right away who they wanted to work on, and surprisingly, no one really asked to do a character that was already spoken for by someone else.

IGN: How does this record speak to Mortal Kombat fans?
JFK: Everyone knows the original Mortal Kombat theme and I know for some people that was an introduction to electronic music. I think with this new and somewhat classic version of the game, it makes sense to try to do that again, but updated for today. Some of the artists on the soundtrack are very well known in the dance world, but I'm sure this soundtrack will be an introduction for many people.

Three of the Themes have already been released and can be bought via our Amazon MP3 Widget or through our Online Store:

Challenge Tower Video + A Hands-On Preview

On a different news, a short and very positive Mortal Kombat 2011 Hands On appeared on GamrReview:

The feeling of playing the new Mortal Kombat is very similar to the feeling I had when first playing Street Fighter IV. It was like I'd travel back in time with a slightly different controller in my hands, and yet there were high-definition graphics before me. Mortal Kombat looks like a very new, very polished fighting game but still plays just like the older Mortal Kombats. The uppercuts, the strange and unnaturally posed flying punches, and the tight-balled flipping jumps harken back to a different time.

I was able to step into the new Mortal Kombat and immediately freeze my enemies with Sub-Zero. I was able to make opponents "get over here" just like I used to with Scorpion. The new Mortal Kombat welcomed me into its bloody, violent bosom like a long lost loved one.

This isn't just a re-hashing of old games, though. While most moves are straight from the older games, the combo system is more robust and the x-ray system that's been shown in screenshots is the reward for great combos. One thing that really jumped out at me is the persistent damage. Throughout the match, the characters will show damage that never goes away. Costumes and masks rip, gashes open up, and blood flows all throughout the match even into victory poses.

Happy 9-th Birthday Mortal Kombat Secrets
by Gambid on Mar 1, 2011 :: 10 Comments

March the 1-st, 2002, this was the day it all started, the day we (back then it was just I) launched Mortal Kombat Secrets a website project dedicated to one of the greatest Fighting Games franchises in history, Mortal Kombat. Now, 9 years later Mortal Kombat Secrets is proud to be one of the most informative Mortal Kombat websites with a massive amount of followers and thousands of visitors every day.

Since it's creation, Mortal Kombat Secrets has covered the release of 5 major Mortal Kombat titles, including Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe and is currently covering the development of Mortal Kombat 9 and Mortal Kombat: Digital Series. We had the chance of a couple of interviews with members of the development team and even visited Leipzig Germany to cover Games Convention 2008. All of this we did out of love for the franchise and you, our visitors.

Currently we are one of the richest Mortal Kombat fan sites out there and expand our content all the time in all possible directions.

But, what did we managed to do during the last one year:

- We completed the migration of the site to it's version 3.5 and started migrating to the new site engine, currently used by almost 50% of the website.
- We created several new sections, including sections for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 9 (2011), Mortal Kombat: Digital Series
- We massively expanded the Mortal Kombat Trilogy and the Kombat Kolumns sections
- We modified the look of our site and message board, in order to bring more darkness to it, a step positively welcomed by a lot of you, for which we would like to thank you.
- We created a Facebook Fan Page and a Twitter account for the site

The work on the website continues as we prepare for the release of Mortal Kombat 9. We also currently work on several other things that we hope you will enjoy.

I would also like to say "Thanks" to all of our past and current staff members for their dedication and hard work on Mortal Kombat Secrets and also to you, our visitors for your continued support.

Happy 9-th Birthday Mortal Kombat Secrets!!!
