Ign: Mk: Armageddon Media Update
Posted On: Feb 25 2006, 08:40 PM
IGN.com has published an interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed
Boon by asking him to throw a little light on several questions that has
been bothering the fans since the game has been announced:
IGN: What do you mean by "Armageddon?" Is
this really final battle between good and evil? Does this mean this is
the last Mortal Kombat as we know it? Will you explain?
Ed: Armageddon does imply "The End" in a few ways. It is the end of MK
on this generation of consoles. It also is the final battle between all
the good and evil characters in the MK universe. We really want to close
this chapter of Mortal Kombat.
...
IGN: Also, from a technical standpoint, are there any complications or
difficulties you had to overcome to get all of these characters to fight
one another? Do different character sizes or fighting styles make a
difference from a design or programming standpoint?
Ed: Absolutely. We are going to be including all the boss characters
from MK's past. Goro, Shao Kahn, even Motaro!! Some of these characters
are HUGE and have never been playable characters before. So we will need
to make sure they are not too powerful or un-fun to play. We are doing
extensive testing on them against every single other character in the
game to make sure they are fair and fun to play.
Part of the update are also several screenshots and two renders of
Kintaro and Reiko and the first ever Mortal Kombat:
Armageddon trailer.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Previews
Posted On: Feb 11 2006, 12:01 PM
Both
GameDaily and
Shacknews preview the upcoming Mortal Kombat game: Mortal
Kombat: Armageddon. From the articles:
ShackNews
But here's the thing: the last time we had
bosses selectable by default in an MK game (MK Trilogy), the balancing
left a little to be desired... which is putting it lightly. So what
about in Armageddon? Will Shao Kahn, Goro and others be able to easily
lay the smack down on other "normal" fighters such as Sub-Zero, Sonya,
and Kano? "The boss characters are going to go through the same
development and balancing as the normal characters in Armageddon,"
assures Boon. "In Trilogy, [the bosses] had to be pieced together with
the 'boss-only' assets created for MK1, 2 and 3. Because of this, they
... never got the same treatment as the other characters, which were
balanced from their original arcade games."

By now you may be wondering exactly how this
game appeals to classic MK fans who were shunned by the move to 3D (and
less strategic gameplay). Well, Midway has declared that this is the MK
that will tie up all the loose ends and allow the development team to
move on to the next generation with a completely new look and feel to
the series. This doesn't mean you won't be seeing a few of the staple
characters in Mortal Kombat 8, but it does mean that fans of the classic
MK titles will be rid of the current fighting engine when the next
generation of Mortal Kombat is finally upon us. Sorry MK fans, but the
3D MK games have turned a lot of old school fans away from the series
who would love to get back into things with a brand new fighting engine.

Official Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
Website Updated
Posted On: Feb 7 2006, 01:56 PM
The official Mortal Kombat:
Armageddon Website (www.mkarmageddon.com)
has been updated. There is really nothing new and interesting there but
at least some sort of activity has been shown after its creation. The
site has only the Dragon logo on it. However keep an eye on it because
it will probably be updated soon with some new information.
