PS2 Emulation Progress Part 2: MK: Deception
Posted On: Apr 7 2006, 09:59 PM

After discussing the progress that the PlayStation 2 emulation made by Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance it is time to turn our attention to Mortal Kombat: Deception. There is not much of a change in this game, because it was playable with the previous release of the emulator too. The FPS are almost the same as before 1,5 - 2 FPS on 3D scenes and 20-40 on 2D scenes. The biggest difference is in the 3D scenes. There are no more floating polygons around. Unfortunately the colors are still messed up.

OK, enough descriptions, here are the screenshots:

If you want to test the game yourself, then PlayStation 2, here you can download the emulator.

Thanks to CoolZone for the screenshots.

Next Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Tournament
Posted On: Apr 7 2006, 08:14 PM

We received information from Shock about the next unofficial Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 tournament. Here is what he has to say about it:

The next UMK3 tournament is going to be held on Saturday May 27th, 2006 at 8 on the Break in Dunellen NJ for ECC11. Players, please show up and make this thing happen. I want enough players to actually hold a tournament for money. Be there early for warm ups and the tournament will most likely start around 7PM. This is probably the biggest tournament of the year in which UMK3 will be featured as a side game.

PlayStation 2 Emulation Progress: MK: DA Playable
Posted On: Apr 5 2006, 09:02 PM

The latest version 0.9 of the most complete PlayStation 2 emulator, PCSX2 has been released two days ago. The authors have fixed a lot of things in the emulation and now even more games boot, run and look better then ever.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was one of the first games to even show something on this emulator in its early stage of development. But unlike others it couldn't pass the first loading screen during all this years. But now, with the current release of PCSX2 the game not only passes through the loading screen, but it even goes ingame and is almost completely playable. The speed is the only thing that remains a problem. The games runs at:

Loading 20 - 25 fps
2D - 15 - 40 fps
3D - 1,5 - 2 fps

The game enters both Arcade and Konquest mode.

Here we have some nice screenshots taken from the emulator:

Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks are reported working too, but how far do they go we cant say yet. Expect an update on the status of these two games very soon.

If you want to test the game yourself, then PlayStation 2, here you can download the emulator.

Second MAT: DE Patch
Posted On: Apr 5 2006, 08:43 PM

Midway released a second patch for Midway Arcade Treasures: Deluxe Edition. This time they fixed the famous Smoke glitch and you are finally able to fight Smoke by pressing D + Start when the face of Dan Forden appears in the bottom right corner on the Portal Arena. Note that this is the first version of Midway Arcade Treasures that has this problem solved. Here is the description of this patch from the official site:

The following patch has been developed to enable the Dan Forden "Toasty!" - Smoke Fight encounter in Mortal Kombat 2, on the Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition for the PC.

Download the Patch to your PC and then double click the patch file (Mat2mkPatch.exe). The patch will make the updates to your installed game that will enable both the Smoke Fight Easter Egg, as well as the random select feature from the character select screen.

The opportunity to fight with Smoke was a hidden Easter Egg in the original arcade release. It was also largely dependent on luck, timing, and some skill. We are glad to be able to bring this hidden content to the PC gamers. Thank you all for your comments, patience, and continued interest in our Mortal Kombat games.

Now get out there and FINISH HIM!
