GamePro Preview
Posted On: Apr 29 2004, 09:28 PM
The latest issue of the german GamePro
magazine has a 5 page preview of Mortal Kombat: Deception. Part of the
article is an interview with the MK: D development team. Here is what
John Vogel had to say about the story:
GamePro: Can you tell us something more
about the story?
John Vogel: A new evil power will appear. It will lead the world
to a total annihilation. During the years the Elder Gods have expected
this and they have prepared for it. With the aid of the chosen one they
will try to protect all that exist.
...
GamePro: Have you changed the fighting system?
Paulo Garcia: Yes. We did. Now there are a lot more special moves
per character, so the fans of the old games will not be disappointed.
The classic MK-Uppercut will return also. ...
...
GamePro: Is there going to be a Krypt in this game?
Brian Lebaron: Yes, but this time the Krypt will be a part of the
Konquest Mode. You will again need coins to open the stuff. But this
time there will be a lot of thing, that you will not be able to unlock
in the Krypt. You will have to find another way to discover them.
That was the most interesting from the Interview. Thanks to myself for
the translation.
More to come soon.

Ed Boon and Producer John Podlasek
Interview
Posted On: Apr 29 2004, 08:35 PM
GameInformer just updated their website with an exclusive interview
with Ed Boon and the producer of Mortal Kombat: Deception
- John Podlasek. You will find a lot of interesting information,
so click
here and take a look.
BB: The games that you’re bringing to
Treasures, are they going to be straight ports from the consoles or are
they going to be the original arcade games?
EB: I believe that they’re the original arcade versions, I mean exactly
the same versions, like emulating or MAME.
...
BB: I’ve played fighting games on Xbox Live, like Capcom Vs. SNK, and
encountered lag. Not a lot, but I did have some issues. How are you guys
working to address that issue?
EB: We played Capcom’s game as well, and from the beginning that was our
number one thing. How do we reduce the lag? Our approach to the whole
issue of communication between the two systems is pretty radically
different and our main goal was to never take away your control of your
character. In terms of when we sent something back and when you respond
to controls, we have a completely different set of rules and we’re
actually very excited about what we’re getting back so far with it. It’s
an ongoing process since the very nature of fighting games is so twitch
and you want to respond right away, so that’s what we really wanted to
focus our energy on. The inherent delay that you would usually get as a
result of broadband, we want to keep it a fun experience. We’re only
going to support broadband, we don’t want the game only being good
online for a small percentage of players. We think people will be
pleased with it.
...
BB: Are you guys planning any downloadable content?
EB: Probably not in this version. We were dying to do something like a
downloadable background or character, but the task of getting both the
Xbox and PS2 online and all these modes was just a ton of content. We
kind of had to draw the line on downloadable content.
JP: When we looked at Deadly Alliance, we were like “wow, this looks
generic.”
EB: Yeah, when you look at Deadly Alliance, it looks like a generic
version of Deception.
...
BB: Do you know how many characters will be playable in the E3
version?
EB: Around 10.

Suffering Midway target of takeover
Posted On: Apr 29 2004, 07:18 PM
Both
GameSpot and
IGN updated with an article regarding the latest
Midway's press release about their Q1 2004 Revenues. Below is the
text of the article posted at
GameSpot:
After the publisher announces a $14.2
million Q1 operating loss, Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone announces plans to
buy a controlling stake.
Today, Midway Games reported its financials for the first quarter of
2004, which ended March 31. The publisher released only one game during
that period, the PlayStation 2 and Xbox horror shooter The Suffering.
However, the game's title could have just as easily described Midway's
finances. When compared to the $45.8 million it earned during Q1 2003,
Q1 2004 revenues for the publisher fell 56 percent, to $20.1 million.
The company reported a net operating loss of $14.2 million for the
quarter, compared with a net loss of $9.3 million for the same quarter a
year ago.
Still, executives put on a brave face: "We are pleased with the results
of the first quarter and in particular with the product development and
marketing achievements accomplished in the launch of The Suffering,"
said CEO and president David F. Zucker.
However, Midway officials couldn't put a positive spin on what happened
after their announcement. The company's stock lost 9.8 percent of its
value ($0.95) after Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone announced his intention
to buy a controlling stake in the company. Currently, Redstone's
National Amusements company owns 49.3 percent of Midway's stock, and,
according to papers filed with the SEC, he plans on increasing that to
"at least" 60 percent.
Speaking to Reuters at a conference, Redstone implied he had big plans
for the publisher. "You will see very soon an enormous infusion of great
creative talent to Midway--and I mean very soon," he said. Redstone also
his interest and investment in Midway was purely personal. "I do not
look at this as a Viacom agenda," he said.
Despite its current troubles, Midway's future aspirations are being
aided by its robust current-quarter lineup. Already, its PS2 and Xbox
sports title NBA Ballers has sold over 600,000 units since it hit stores
in early April. Upcoming is the European release of The Suffering, as
well as ship dates for MLB SlugFest: Loaded and Psi Ops: The Mindgate
Conspiracy. The company says it expects to report second quarter
revenues of $38 million, with and a net operating loss of $10 million.
Looking further out, the company announced Shadow Hearts: Covenant will
be released in North America, and confirmed Area 51 and Mortal Kombat:
Deception for 2004. However, one of Midway's most anticipated and
controversial titles won't be arriving this year: the remake of NARC has
been officially delayed until 2005.
In its guidance for all of 2004, Midway predicted revenues of $148
million, a 60 percent increase over 2003. The company also said it
expects to trim full-year losses from $20 million to $18 million.

Mortal Kombat: The Dark Tournament
Posted On: Apr 25 2004, 03:03 PM
Mortal Kombat: The Dark Tournament is
a fan game, written by our forum member Masos in Turbo Pascal
7.0. It is still in development, and we now have some new
information about it. Masos posted a preview of his game at his personal
webpage. Below is part of the text:
When I started Mortal Kombat: The Dark
Tournament six months ago I wanted to be an ordinary free game. Well as
for the graphics it really is. There aren't any sounds and could not
make a revolution in fighting games with... Pascal. All that came to my
mind was the story.
The plot of MK:TDT will show you the world of Mortal Kombat in a
different light. the first campaign you play with Scorpion - a candidate
for the next emperor of Outworld. This campaign and the game as a whole
aim to get you known with the different world of Mortal Kombat. The real
action will come in the second game. However, the plot will be
interesting and will make you play every next battle. The second
campaign remains for Prince Necross (one of the new characters) and its
plot is now unknown.
The gameplay in MK:TDT will not be like in MK1-4 but more like the
gameplay we saw in MK:DA and MK:TE for GBA. Unfortunately it won't offer
as many attacks as the commercial games but there are a lot of
strategies for beating your enemies. The characters (both playable and
unplayable) will be over 20 and they will be all made with letters and
punctuation marks. However this will not be the weakest point of the
game. Perhaps the worst is that there are not any sounds. But if you
want Dolby Surround in Pascal perhaps you don't know what Turbo Pascal
7.0 is.
According to the latest information we got Quan Chi and Ermac
will also appear in MK: TDT. There will be some new characters made for
the game. There will be some mini-games too. Curently only
Test Your Harpoon is developed. MK: TDT will be completely free
and will appear this summer here at Mortal Kombat Secrets.
A very early beta of the game you can download from
here
Please use "Save Target As" or "GetRight" to
download the file or you will receive an error.

New Information From UK
Posted On: Apr 17 2004, 11:57 AM
The latest issue of the Britain Official
PlayStation magazine has a preview of Mortal Kombat: Deception with a
lot of new information and screens.
Stage Fatality:
Nightwolf gets thrown against a wall by Ashrah who is a distance away,
as he slides down the wall he lands onto molten metal where he starts to
burn and tries to crawl away, just as you think he makes it "BANG", the
mould slams down crushing him and as it raises again there is just a
bloody burning smear of him left on the molten metal now formed by the
mould that came falling down.

MK Deception Chess:
Weaker pieces on the Chess-like board will have less energy than the
stronger ones. There are also special squares on the board which can act
as traps (springing pieces straight off of the board without any combat)
or will restore energy, again making the match more strategic. The idea
is that each game of Chess will last no more than 10-15 minutes in
total, which each player quickly moving there pieces around the board -
there wont be any 2 day chess marathons here.
Part of the preview is also an interview
with Ed Boon:
Favourite Mortal Kombat character and
fatality?
I definately play as Scorpion the most and my favourite fatality in the
whole game is probably Sub Zero's spine rip from the first game. That
was inspired by Predator. In the new game Baraka has this one where he
slices you at the waist, then cuts off your arms and stabs you in the
middle pulling your entire torso away which is pretty good.
It must be fun, picking new fatalities?
They're really hard to come up with because you've done like a hundred
of them before. We have 30 to 40 guys on the team and any time.

information about this news.

GameInformer Preview
Posted On: Apr 16 2004, 03:54 PM
The latest issue of
GameInforrmer magazine contains a 4 page preview of Mortal Kombat:
Deception. There is a lot of new information so let start:
The Story:
The Story will start from there where MK: DA left off. There will be an
opening FMV just like in the previews game. The only thing about the
story that has been mentioned is that the Dragon King will be the
main antagonist.
Characters:
The following characters have been confirmed:
1. Classic characters: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Baraka,
Mileena, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Tanya, Ermac,
Nightwolf, Sindel, and Kabal. These characters will
have their signature moves.
2. New characters: Kira (female Black Dragon Member), Ben
(pro martial arts champion), Dairou (Ronin Samurai with a score
to settle) and Ashrah (mystical demon huntress).
3. Liu Kang will return in two forms..a ghost, and a zombie.
There are more characters, that wasn't
announced.
Engine Details:
1. Rendering engine received complete overhaul.
2. Polygon count per characters has increased significantly.
3. Characters have gloss maps, multi-layered transparencies, a new more
flexible dismemberment system, dynamic lighting, and bump-mapping.
Gameplay:
1. Three fighting styles per character are returning.
2. Since the death traps are now part of the gameplay, there are more
new moves to propel characters "in front" and "behind" you.
3. Some backgrounds change in shape and size as you are playing on them.
4. Number of unique weapons has been expanded.
5. Special weapons will be placed near 'death traps', hidden in secret
locations, and sometimes even encased in other interactive background
elements.
6. More combos per fighting style.
7. There will be 'break out' moves that allow players to break out of
the receiving end of a combo.
Finishing Moves:
1. Two fatalities per character
2. Limbs can be severed this time as opposed to in MKDA, and several
fatalities will take advantage of this.
3. Example of a fatality - The attacker rips off the opponent's arms and
then beats him with them.
4. Level fatalities are returning. Players can turn the tide of a fight
by forcing their opponent into a 'danger zone' to activate them.
5. Environments are packed full of surprises.. Earthquakes that shrink
the arena size, breakable glass floors, and breakable walls.
5. Sample of some Stage Fatalities.. Opponent getting buried in rock
avalanches, smashed by giant steel presses, ripped to shreds with
grinders, eaten by giant slugs, gored by spikes, shaved into chunks with
spinning blades, boiled in lava, impaled on stalagmites, or cut to
pieces by lasers.
Game Modes:
1. Online mode will allow you to find opponents to challenge...bringing
back the old days of MK in the Arcades.
2. Konquest lets you learn the moves as before, but is also there for
you to explore the different realms of the MK Universe.
3. Once Konquest is completed, you can take that character to the
regular fighting game, and Online.
4. Strategy Board game will have background interactive elements.
5. Puzzle Kombat will have different backgrounds to play in, and each
one will have different fatalities performed on the victim who plays
poor.

No PC Version of MK: Deception
Posted On: Apr 14 2004, 07:08 PM
Bodzio of
MKCenter has contacted John Podlasek, the producer of MK: DA asking
him question about a possible PC version of the game. Here is what John
Podlasek had to say:
"Not at this time. Our engine was developed
for cross-platform development on the console side. I'm sure it could be
done somehow, but we have our hands full with the Xbox and PS2"
This is a very sad news for all of the PC gamers out there.

More Information From The German Issue Of
PSM
Posted On: Apr 13 2004, 01:02 PM
We finally get our hands on a copy of the
latest German issue of the PlayStation 2 magazine. The preview is 5
pages and includes an exclusive interview with Ed Boon. The article is
in German, so I don't think to upload scans. Below are all the new
information in English and the screenshots and renders. So let's start:
1. Fighters:
The character list in the magazine is very rich in new, previously
unannounced character. Here is it, right like it was in the magazine, no
change. I only translated it in English:
You will recognize a lot of familiar faces under the total of 24
characters who will be in the game. The classic characters are:
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Rayden, Baraka, Mileena,
Noob Saibot/Smoke, Tanya, Nightwolf,
Sindel, Ermac and Liu Kang's Spirit (you remember that
Liu Kang was destroyed by Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat: Deadly
Alliance). Kabal and Sektor will probably be also a part
of the team, but there is а question-mark for the both of them.

Part of the new character in MK: DA will
also appear in Deception. They are Li Mei, Blind Kenshi
and Bo'Rai Cho. The other 7 characters are completely new to the
game. Ashra has a similar to Raiden's outfit and it seems
that she is in some way connected with the Thunder God.

Hotaru is a sinister samurai with
long grey hair and black colored outfit.

Skab is the most disgusting fighters
of all (he reminds me of Meat and Drahmin (comment by Gambid)). If you
take a closer look you will see parts from his rotting corpse and a
skeleton.

There is no information about the others
fighters, only their names: Dairou, Ken-Masters, a
female version of Kano and a mystical character, known as 24.
The last one is most probably the character you will create in the
Konquest Mode...
2. The Konquest Mode:
Earlier it was announced that you will have the opportunity to explore
six different worlds. So here are their names: Earthrealm,
Outworld, Netherealm, Orderrealm, Chaosrealm
and Edenia. When you begin the game your character will be 13
years old. At the end he will be about 60.
3. The Strategy Mini-game:
Main goal in this game is to protect your King/Emperor, who is
almost defenseless. Different character will have different Gifts.
Some will be able to perform special moves, others will have more energy
or will be able to set a trap.
4. Motion Capture:
Carlos Pesina is one of the main persons, who are doing the
motion capture for Deception. It was announced that he was used for all
Raiden's moves.
5. Interview:
In the exclusive interview with Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal
Kombat said that there will be no 4 player mode in this game. He
also mentioned that this will probably stay for the next installment of
the bloody series - Mortal Kombat 7.
It is finally over. Well... It looks like I
wrote a small preview of the game. I hope that there will be no more
news today. I need a vacation.
Update:
MKOnline have spoken to Midway's internal media relations team about
the information in this article. Here is what what Midway had to say:
"The news source was an outdated and unofficial gameplay document that
was not intended for media use. The unofficial information was taken
without prior consent or approval from Midway Games and therefore should
not be considered accurate and/or official Mortal Kombat news."
That means that part of the information in the magazine can be wrong,
but of course not all of it. For sure we will know more after E3.

the new character Ashrah with Raiden's hammer. Below is the screenshot:

The German Issue:
We still don't have a copy of the magazine so part of the information
can be wrong. The preview announce the return of Raiden, Tanya,
Smoke, Sektor and the Liu Kang's Spirit. Returning characters
from MK: DA are Li Mei and Bo'Rai Cho. New fighters are
also revealed: Dairou, a mystical character, known as 24,

Mortal Kombat Trilogy Autokeyz

Freez0R, the creator of the Mortal
Kombat Trilogy Trainer has developed a new very useful program: Mortal
Kombat Trilogy Autokeyz. What can this program do? Below is a part of
the readme file of the program, written by Freez0R himself:
Trying some very complicated moves in MK
Trilogy can be a complete pain sometimes. With this program, it's
possible to input a move like a Brutality and execute your move with a
simple push of a button. But it's also possible to input a very
complicated combo-move, which can not be performed by normal human
beings like me.

Mileena VS Li Mei
Posted On: Apr 6 2004, 08:11 AM
I post this news only to tell you my
opinion of the rumors floating around these days. Will Li Mei
return for Mortal Kombat: Deception? There is no official
confirmation about this character, only what fans say. But fans
might be wrong. Everything was based on one screenshot, published in the
Official PlayStation magazine.

Here the character in right has similar
to Li Mei's outfit from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. But this
doesn't mean that it is Lie Mei. It could be just an alternative
Mileena's outfit. Also I don't think that Midway will put both,
Mileena and Li Mei, in one game. They both look very similar.
They have the same weapon and the same color scheme. It is like putting
Kano and Jarek in one game. So, I don't think that we will see Li Mei in
Mortal Kombat: Deception, but I might be wrong. Only the time
will show us.

X-Box Nation Preview
Posted On: Apr 6 2004, 07:43 AM
The latest issue of the
X-Box Nation magazine contains a preview of Mortal Kombat:
Deception. There was no new information in this article. The most
interesting thing were of course the screenshots. On one of them you can
see Sindel and Mileena.

MK Trilogy Trainer Add-on
Posted On: Apr 2 2004, 09:26 PM
Freez0R updated his Mortal Kombat
Trilogy trainer and added some great new features. Here is a part of the
readme file, which is part of the archive:
1. Set number of rounds played
2. Set number of wins per player
3. Enter a kombat-code
...
Well, basically...that's all. Well, there are two more hidden options
(yes, one of them is the combo-codes option (which was way hard to
implement)), BUT these options can only be accessed by inputting a
couple of finishing moves, which has to be done pretty fast (it is
possible, i've managed to do it). And maybe some day, I will give out
the specific secrets, but try to crack your brain on this and look
carefully at the startup hints!
Click
here to download the trainer or
here for Mirror file.
Please use "Save Target As" or "GetRight" to
download the file or you will receive an error.
Click Comment and help us find the way to
unlock the secret options.

Yesterday Ed Boon personally contacted
Mortal Kombat Secrets and inform us that Mortal Kombat: Kompilation is
almost ready. The title will contain all Mortal Kombat games ever made.
It will be released only on PC. There will be some extra features, like
online play and a remake of Mortal Kombat Trilogy with a lot better
graphics. Mortal Kombat: Kompilation will ship on 06.15.2004.
Update: - 04.02.2004
Highlight here: Sorry gyus
but this news was only an April joke. I know you wanted it to be true,
just like me, but it is not. So now, please put your smile back on your
face and try to remember it so next time you will not fall into the
trap. I am speaking about April 2005.
