Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Stage 6: The Netherrealm

maximum experience points: 4525
mission: escape from the prison of souls
password: rgtkcs
moves attainable: Super Slide

After sub-zero jumps into the portal, stage 6 immediately begins. As you read in the stage 5 guide, if you don't have the game set on the "medium" level or higher, you will get an "access denied" message. however, all you have to do is set the game on medium or higher, then put in the password to get back to stage 5. Play it over again, and this time when you jump through the portal, you'll make it through successfully. overall, stage 6 is a fairly easy stage. You simply keep going to the right all the way through, so there's nothing confusing about it, until the end of the stage, where it gets a bit tricky. Read on for more information...

Sub-Zero will jump through a portal and land in the prison stage of the Netherealm (see the picture). Quan Chi will appear in front of you for a split second, before teleporting away. Your mission is to follow Quan Chi and escape from the prison of souls as quickly as possible. After Quan Chi disappears, run to the right.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Run up to the door on the right. After the game loads for a couple of seconds, the door should open (see the picture). Run through the door, and right when you get outside, slide to the right 2 times. You should slide right into an opponent's feet, nailing them to the ground, and nailing their weapon out of their hands. The reason for doing this is that the weapons the enemies are carrying in this stage are extremely deadly, and one hit with one of the green fireballs they shoot takes off a lot of power. By forcing them to lose their weapon, they are much less damaging and can be killed much easier. You'll find yourself doing this a lot within the next 1-2 stages. It's an efficient way to avoid their weapons, and save yourself from dying. Kill the enemy, grab the herbs, and slide around 1-2 more times to the right. You will hit the feet of another opponent. Kill him, and keep moving right.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

You'll come up to 3 smashing hammers (see the picture). This may look easy, but its not as simple than it seems. The reason being is that there are 2 enemies with deadly weapons in between each of the hammers, and they just love to knock you into the path of a smashing hammer. So, as soon as you see the first hammer begin to go up, slide. You'll hit the first enemy right in his feet, causing him to lose his weapon, and possibly knocking him into the path of the second smashing hammer. If not, quickly freeze him and roundhouse him, knocking him into the path of the hammer on the right, or freeze him twice and uppercut him, if you've earned the ice shatter move. After defeating him, wait until the second hammer is on its way up, and slide. This will again knock the enemy over, causing him to lose his weapon. Do the same thing to him as you did with the previous enemy, then jump past the 3rd hammer and run out of there. After passing the 3rd hammer, you'll have to slide again, knocking another enemy over. Defeat him, and keep moving to the right.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After running to the right, you'll be confronted with another door, and some herbs. Grab the herbs and run into the door. After a couple seconds of loading, the door will open. Run into the prison room. This is your first checkpoint. here you will fight 2 male warriors. Be careful, because these guys can be extremely dangerous. Their roundhouses and uppercuts can take off as much as 40%. Defeat the first male warrior, then run left and out the door, back through the door and into the room, and fight the second male warrior. For some reason, if you just stand there after defeating the first guy, the second male warrior never comes, so you have to run out the door and back in so he'll magically appear. After defeating the enemies, run to the right and out the door. After a bit of loading, the door should open. As soon as you're out, slide 1-2 times. Defeat the enemy you knock over, and keep moving to the right. You'll come to a yellow force field. Don't attempt to jump over this or slide under it, neither will work. Just wait until the yellow is gone, then run through it. As soon as you've passed the first barrier, slide, and knock the enemy to his feet. Defeat him, and run through the second yellow force field. grab the herbs on the other side, and continue to the right. The computer should take over from there. Sub-Zero will run into a huge boss with a saw blade on his hand. The monster will knock Sub-Zero to the ground, and more enemies will come up to him and stab him with their staffs. That is where the fmv takes over.

This is where it gets a bit confusing. If you haven't yet seen the following fmv sequence and you don't want to know about it, skip the next 3 steps and move on. If not, keep reading. Remember way back in stage 1, when Scorpion fell to his knees and exclaimed "Spare Me!", and you had the option of either letting him live, or ripping his spine out? well, that option is what will decide which fmv scene you will see here. This makes the game more realistic. After all, if you didn't rip Scorpion's spine in stage 1, why would you be confronted by a dead Scorpion? For both of the fmv sequences, Sub-Zero is knocked into a jail after being beaten by the enemies (see the picture), and is either confronted by Shinnok or Scorpion. The following 2 steps will describe each fmv sequence.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Shinnok: if you didn't rip Scorpion's spine out in stage 1, you'll be confronted by Shinnok (see the picture). Sub-Zero asks "Who are you?", and Shinnok replies "A lost soul.".

Shinnok explains to Sub-Zero that escape from the Netherealm is futile, and that he wouldn't be able to survive in the Netherealm if he didn't have some impurities of evil in his soul. Sub-Zero argues that he was sent by Raiden, and asks the old man if he's ever tried to escape. Shinnok says "Ah, I'll be leaving this realm soon. But first I must play Raiden's game." Shinnok then mysteriously disappears.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Scorpion: if you did rip Scorpion's spine out in stage 1, you'll be confronted by a dead Scorpion (see the picture).

Scorpion is pleading to Sub-Zero "It wasn't enough to kill me, you had to destroy any last remnant of my being, including my wife and child.". Sub-Zero replies with "You are mistaken, Quan Chi is responsible for their deaths.". Finally Scorpion says "Words will not save you, Lin Kuei warrior..." Scorpion and Sub-Zero then prepare to fight to the death.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

If you were confronted by Shinnok in the previous fmv sequence, skip this step and move on to the next one. however, if you were confronted by Scorpion, you'll have to fight an undead Scorpion in the prison stage. He's got his Ultimate Mortal Komba 3 uniform on, and unlike the previous Scorpion, he now has all of his moves, like his teleport and spear (see the picture). However, he's fairly easy to beat, and rarely even uses any of his moves. Defeat him and run to the right.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Here is where it all reunites, and we get back to beating the stage. Run out of the prison stage, and after around 1-2 seconds of loading, the door should open. Run through it, and again, as soon as you're out of it, slide into the enemies feet in front of you. This time, they have a new weapon, a huge fireball launcher, which is a little less dangerous, but still just as damaging. After defeating the opponent, the camera should zoom out and you'll find yourself on a large ledge (see the picture). Jump across the ledge and on to the platform, jump down the next 2 platforms and on to another bridge. Once you're on the bridge, slide 1-2 times, knocking the enemy over. Defeat him.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Now you'll find yourself near an elevator labeled "G-1-2" (see the picture). We'll call this elevator G-1-2. Remember this spot, but pass this elevator and continue to the right. You'll come to a small ledge. Jump off the ledge on to the platform below, grab the herbs, and jump back up on to the higher platform on the right. Continue to the right. You'll come to another set of 3 smashing hammers, only this time they're separated on to platforms. Jump from platform to platform, avoiding the hammers. Once you're past the hammers and back on to the bridge, slide a couple of times to hit the enemy ahead. Defeat the enemy. You'll also come up to another elevator, this one is elevator 1-2. Pass it, and continue to the right. You'll come to another ledge. Jump over this ledge and on to the platform on the right. Watch out, because this is a very long jump, and you may need to backup and make a run for it before jumping. Also, beware of the enemy on the ledge on the right, because he likes to shoot his fireballs at you while you're trying to make the jump from platform to platform.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Jump up on to the ledge on the right, defeat the enemy, and grab the first key (see the picture). This is your second checkpoint. Now jump back on to the platform on the left and make your way back to elevator G-2. Stand over the elevator and press the HK and action (L1/A) buttons at the same time. The elevator should go up. Once it has made it's way all the way up, go to the right. Defeat the enemy, and continue running to the right until you get to the ledge at the end.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Once you get to the ledge, key #2 should be floating there (see the picture). Grab it, and jump on to another elevator 1-2 on the right. Press HK and action (L1/A) to make it go up. Once it has stopped, jump off to the ledge on the right, and continue going to the right until you are confronted with the saw blade boss.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

The saw blade boss will slowly walk up, then you fight him (see the picture). He looks intimidating, however there's a simple pattern to beating him, and once you've got it down he is simple to beat. Here's what you do: run up to him, roundhouse him, then immediately jump kick him. After that, quickly jump away as he will do one of his attack moves. let him take at least one step forward before running in and roundhousing/jump kicking again. Never try to do more than a roundhouse/jump kick, because he'll attack you. If you get stuck in the corner, run up to him, roundhouse him, then slide under his feet while he's stunned. Then start over again, only from the opposite side.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After the saw blade boss explodes, key 3 will appear (see the picture). Grab the key, and run back to the left. You now want to make your way back to elevator G-1-2, talked about in step #10. Do this by jumping on to elevator 1-2 on the left, and press LP and action (L1/A Button) to make the elevator go down. After it has fully gone down, jump on to the ledge on the left. Keep running left on the bridge until you come to elevator G-1. Again, press LP and action (L1/A Button) to make the elevator go down. After it's done going down, keep going left. Pass the smashing hammers, and continue left.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After passing the hammers, you should come up on elevator G-1-2 (see the picture). Press HK and action (L1/A) to make it go up. You should come to another bridge on the right. Don't go on this bridge. quickly press HK and action (L1/A) to make it go up again to the next level, avoiding the enemy with the fireball launcher. Once you're on the top level, run to the right on the bridge. Defeat the enemy you confront, and continue running right on the long bridge.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After running to the right for awhile, you'll come up to yet another elevator, elevator 2-3 (see the picture). Press HK and action (L1/A) to make it go up. Once you get to the top level, you'll be confronted with an urn of strength and an enemy with a fireball launcher. Defeat the enemy and grab the urn of strength. Take elevator 2-3 back down by pressing LP and action (L1/A button). Run to the right across the bridge. When you get to the end of the bridge, just jump off. Continue running to the right. You'll come up to elevator 1-2 again. Go up it again by pressing HK and action (L1/A) at the same time. Jump on to the ledge on the right and continue to run right. You'll come up to another ledge. Jump off of it and on to elevator 2-3. Take that one up as well, then jump on to the ledge on the right. Continue running to the right until you come to the end of the bridge.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After reaching the end of the bridge, you'll be confronted with an enormous statue of Shinnok made entirely of stone. Now, access the inventory menu by pressing select (Z for n64), and use the urn of strength you just picked up. Then, get out of the inventory menu, and jump kick the Shinnok statue. It should fall over, Sub-Zero will run up it, and the fmv will take over from there. You have successfully defeated stage 6.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

After stage 6, we are introduced to 3 female assassins: Kia, Sareena, and Jataaka. They are suprised to see that a mortal has entered the netherealm and escaped the prison of souls with his soul still intact (see the picture). Serena orders the other 2 assassins to look after the ninja while she goes to report the happenings to Quan Chi.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 6

Sareena goes to report to her master, Quan Chi, that Sub-Zero has successfully escaped from the prison of souls and is headed for the bridge of immortality (see the picture). Quan Chi orders Sareena to alert the guards, and to make sure that Sub-Zero does not cross the bridge of immortality. He ends with the statement: "We have toyed with the ninja long enough".
