Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Stage 2: The Himalaya Mountain

maximum experience points: 875
mission: obtain the 3 elements of wind
password: thwmsb
moves attainable: angle ice shoot

Stage one ends with a long fmv sequence, involving Quan Chi, Sub-Zero, and the Lin Kuei Grrandmaster. Sub-Zero brings the map of elements to his master, when Quan Chi enters. Quan Chi and Sub-Zero argue for a bit, before the quarrel is halted by the Grandmaster. Quan Chi then dumps out a bag of bones, which he says is the bones of one of their greatest enemies. Sub-Zero is then told what to do by Quan Chi. He is to retrieve 3 keys from 4 separate basic elements: wind, earth, water, and fire. Stage 2 is Sub-Zero's journey to find, retrieve, and bring back the 3 keys for the wind element.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

The stage begins out on a zoomed out level. Sub-Zero is standing on a ledge, in front of a huge opening (see pic above). Go to the right and enter the mountain. Fight the first enemy. Be careful, as part of the mountain will blow off in the wind, and you want to make sure that you don't fall off.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Once you've defeated the enemy, get on the edge of the ledge (see pic). Listen for the sound of blowing wind. When you hear it, jump right off the ledge. The wind should carry you to the first platform. Once you've safely landed, jump upwards to the next platform. You can hang on the edge of the platforms if necessary, you don't always have to land on top. There should be an enemy at the top of this ledge. Be very careful while fighting enemies on these platforms, you can be knocked off and lose a life very easily.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Once you have defeated the character, jump down to the platform below and wait for a gust of wind to come upwards from your right (see pic). You'll know when it's coming because you'll hear the sound of the wind gusting, and debris flying upwards. Just jump into the wind, and let it guide you to the bridge above. run across the bridge and jump to the next 2 platforms. Be careful however, because the 2 platforms after the bridge will collapse in 3 seconds upon impact, so get off of them as soon as possible.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

This is your first checkpoint. You're either going to have an extremely hard time with the fans, or an extremely easy time. The trick of getting on these things is to never jump when they're both in-line. For the first one, jump on it right after it has passed you. Then, for the other fans, jump just as you see them coming on screen. It takes practice, but after a few tries it will come a lot easier to you.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

After you've passed the fans, run across the bridge, and once you're to the end, wait for a wind gust to pick you up and take you across (see pic). Like before, you'll know when it's coming because of all of the debris. The platform you will land on will collapse, so kick the enemy off and get off of there quickly. The next one will also collapse, so grab the herbs and jump to the lower platform. You can tell when platforms are going to collapse, because they make the "cracking" sound.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Now jump onto the first rope. Go all the way down, almost off the screen, then jump for the platform with the free life potion on it (see pic above). Grab the green potion, then jump back onto the first rope. Jump from rope to rope until you come to the last rope.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Wait on the last rope for another wind gust, then jump off and let the wind guide you (see pic above). This time you have 2 choices of where to go, left or right, choose left. Fight the enemy on the platform, then go left and jump up onto the higher platform, then the higher one above that. Fight the enemy, and jump onto the final platform. You may want to back up and make a run for this one, because it is a further distance away than all of the previous platforms.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

This is the first key of 3 for the wind element (see pic). Grab the key. This is your 2nd checkpoint. Jump down all of the previous platforms you came up on, and go right. Jump onto the bridge, and fight the 2 enemies. Then jump to the following platform. Wait for a wind gust to guide you to the next two platforms.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Once you get to the platform with the yellow circle on it, stop and press select (Z for N64) to access the inventory screen. Choose the key that you got just a minute ago, and choose "use". Press select (Z for N64) to exit the inventory screen. Suddenly a huge tornado appears to the right of you. Wait about 3 to 4 seconds for it to build its strength, then jump into it.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

You will go flying upwards into the tornado. Hold down to keep sub-zero from going too high. Once you're at the right level for him to exit, jump out of the tornado. Make sure you're not too high into the air, because he'll fall to his death. You should be on a platform just to the right of the tornado now (see pic).

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Now go right and jump across the platform to a bridge. Run across the bridge. Be careful, as soon as you touch the bridge, it will collapse and go flying all over. Once the bridge has fully collapsed, jump down to the lower platform. You should see a triangle key on a small wooden platform to the far left, as seen in the pic. This key can be tricky to retrieve. If you're having problems, just back up to the middle of the platform you're on, then run right off of it, on to the wooden platform, without jumping, and you should safely make it. Grab the triangle key, and go back to where the tornado was. Jump into the tornado and this time go all the way to the top, as high as you can go. once you're all the way to the top, jump out of the tornado to the right.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

You should be in a location similar to the one seen in the pic above. Press select (Z for n64) to access the inventory menu, and choose the triangle key that you just retrieved. Press select (Z for n64) to exit, and the door in front of you should open.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Once you're in, you'll be confronted with an enemy. Don't kill him! Make sure he's standing, then freeze him about 5 times. Push the frozen enemie on top of a gray metal switch embedded into the ground as seen in the pic. You should hear the sound of the door opening. Now, jump over the still-frozen enemy to the right and enter the door with the fan. Grab the rectangle key. The fan should start up. Run out of the room and jump over the still-frozen enemy and back into the tornado. This is your 3rd checkpoint.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Go back down through the tornado to the bottom ledge again, then to the right and over the bridge where you got the triangle key, and on to the next platform. This is where you'll be met with your first set of moving platforms. These are just as tricky as the moving fan platforms, so be careful. Wait until the platform is all the way in the background, as far as it will go, and as soon as it starts to come back, jump. Get on the far left of the platform that you're on now, and repeat the process.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

After crossing the platforms, you'll be confronted with another door accessible by your rectangle key you got in the room with the big fan (see pic). Press select (Z for n64) to access the inventory menu, choose the rectangle key, then press select (Z for n64) again and the door will open. The next 7 platforms you jump on will collapse on impact, so get off of them quickly. On the 8th platform, you'll have to jump over more moving platforms, then over 3 more ledges. After that, wait for the wind to guide you off of the screen for a battle with the stage 2 boss.

Horizontal Line

Stage 2: Fujin

Fujin is just like any other opponent on the ground, fairly easy to beat if you've got the basic MK maneuvers and techniques down. However, when he gets into the air, he can be extremely deadly. And the cheapest move is the tornado at the end, which sucks you in and kills you if you don't know what you're doing.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

First and foremost, always stay in the middle portion of the fighting arena (see the pic). Fujin has alot of moves where he throws you or hits you a long way, which could possibly throw you right off the ledge, thus losing a life. If you find yourself inching towards the edge, just jump over Fujin (or run under him if he's in the air), and run back to the middle of the stage.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Fujin seems to be a sucker for ground combos (see the pic). As I said earlier, he's an average player on the ground, and if you have the basic techniques mastered, you can defeat him without any problems. If he happens to be on the ground, freeze, combo, slide, and get all the hits in possible before he gets back into the air.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

Fujin has a pesky debris move where he lifts his arm while in the air (or on the ground), and a wind gust comes up below you and picks you up into the air (see the pic). He then slams you with his square wave punch, or throws you, causing quite a bit of damage. To avoid it, don't just sit there and block for over 10 seconds, because he'll do it to you. Jump around, or run back and forth to avoid it. If he does this move and you're not caught in it, do your upward vertical freeze (B, D, F, HK), and freeze him in mid-air.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

If every time you attempt to vertical freeze Fujin (B, D, F, HK), and he does the tornado, here is a good method of beating him. If he's just floating in the air waiting for your next move, vertical freeze up at him. He'll do his tornado, so hold block as you go under him (see the pic). Then, run to his other side, and while still he's still doing the tornado, press the turn button so you're facing the right way, and as soon as he gets out of his tornado motion, do another vertical freeze up at him.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

He should be frozen in air now, vulnerable to a uppercut or roundhouse. Also, now you've got him to the ground, where you can beat him to a pulp. If he happens to get back into the air, which there's a good possibility he will, just repeat the process. If you haven't earned the vertical freeze yet because of a lack of experience points, try and get him on to the ground and combo him as many times as possible to earn the experience points you need to inherit the move.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

When you have beaten Fujin, he gets in the center of the stage and performs a huge tornado move which pulls you in, picks you up, and slams you down (see the pic) if you don't know how to defeat it.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero Stage 2

So how do you defeat the huge tornado? Towards the end of the Fujin fight, watch his power meter, and as soon as the final sliver of it runs out, begin running to the far left of the screen. Get as near to the ledge as possible without having risk of falling off. Fujin will begin his tornado move. Stay as close to the ledge as in the pic. Any further to the right, and you'll be sucked into the tornado and die. Also, don't get too close to the ledge, because you can also lose your life falling off. When you see the debris begin to come at you, hold the run button (L2/R by default), and don't let go. Then, when it begins to drag you in, press left on the controller, Then quickly let go, continue holding on to the run button, and press it again, then let go again. Every half second or so, alternate between holding left on the controller and releasing it. Don't hold down left and never let go, because you'll likely run right off the ledge. If you don't hold left enough, you'll be dragged in. It takes practice, but sooner or later you'll get used to it. After about 7-8 seconds of running against the wind, Fujin will give up and explode, his beating heart still floating there. You have defeated stage 2.
