Fan Fiction - Mortal Kombat On Planet Of The Road Rovers
Episode One: "Mountain of the Delphi" - Part I

It is the year 3085AD...two astronauts; Liu Kang and Johnny Cage traveling through a timewarp space vortex find themselves stranded on a strange and hostile planet where mutant dogs are the masters and people the servants & slaves.

Story begins with sound of gunshots ringing out as the Canine New World Order Empire troopers open fire on the fleeing astronauts Cage and Kang who run for their lives to avoid being shot.

JOHNNY CAGE: Over here, Liu. Quick!

Footsteps can be heard as the friends run for freedom while continuing gunshots sing after them like angry bees. Then it becomes silent when it becomes apparent their attackers cannot see them anymore.

LIU KANG: Whew, that was close. <looks around> Where's Colleen?

It is then the canosapien collie rover appears beside the grand champion and the movie stuntman.

COLLEEN: Right behind you, I'm not more anxious to be caught by General Hunter's troopers than you are. If there's anything he hates more than a human, it's a rover who is friendly to people.

JOHNNY CAGE: Yeah, right...and I thought all dogs were man's best friend. <to himself>

Just then came the sound of galloping hoofbeats making the friends look up in shock and suprise to notice the CnWo troopers riding away on their horses into the distance.

JOHNNY CAGE: Hey, look.

LIU KANG: They're going away, I don't get it.

JOHNNY CAGE: I don't either, they had us trapped.

LIU KANG: With them in front and this mountain at our backs we didn't stand a chance.

JOHNNY CAGE: <asks Colleen> What do you think, Colleen. Why did they leave?

COLLEEN: I'm not sure, unless...

LIU KANG: Unless what?

COLLEEN: Unless we've entered one of the Forbidden Zones.

JOHNNY CAGE: Forbidden Zones? You mean those dead cities we've visited on our quest?

COLLEEN: Yes, those same cities that were destroyed in the great disaster centuries ago. <then continues> Out of a mixture of fear and superstitious our minister of science has designated certain areas of the country off-limits to all Rovers.

LIU KANG: That's kind of strange because your Doctor Blitz doesn't strike me as being the kind to fall for a lot of that superstitious talk.

COLLEEN: Quite right, his major concern is to keep canosapiens from learning that there may have been human civilizations in ancient times equal or perhaps even superior to our own. Thus upsetting the theory that dogs evolved from a lower species of sapiens - people.

JOHNNY CAGE: M-what?!! <surprised> Dogs evolved from people? No way...

LIU KANG: How come you don't go along with him?

COLLEEN: I've seen evidence in archaeological research that such civilizations did indeed exist. Because I've tried to make that fact known, I've been ridiculed, scoffed, laughed, mocked at by the high council and banished from my own people as an outcast. Now that I've met you strangers from beyond the stars and helped you escape certain death, I am now a fugitive along with you.

JOHNNY CAGE: And lucky thing for us too, we would not be alive today if it were not for you.

LIU KANG: <looks around> Hey, this sure is a forbidden place. That mountain rising up out of nowhere casting its shadow over the valley below, where are we Colleen?

COLLEEN: Blimey, I can only guess, but I'd say...

Just then there came a loud rumbling noise like thunder making the friends look in all directions for its source.

JOHNNY CAGE: What is that noise? Sounds like...

LIU KANG: Look out! Those boulders coming down on us. <points> Let's get out of here!

All four dive for cover as a large landslide of boulders crash down around them, missing them by mere inches. Then they glance back up in confusion and bewilderment.

LIU KANG: Wow, an avalanche! As if we haven't had enough problems dodging General Hunter and the CnWo.

JOHNNY CAGE: That was no avalanche.

LIU KANG: What are you talking about?

JOHNNY CAGE: Up there. <points skyward>

They all glance up to see tiny figures of people staring down at them from the ridge tops above.

LIU KANG: Cavemen! Right out of the stone age!

JOHNNY CAGE: Good grief...I can't believe it.

COLLEEN: Yes, yes, just what I thought. But I never thought I would get to see living specimens.

LIU KANG: <confused> What are you talking about?

COLLEEN: Those humans, they could be the missing link between civilized dogs and primi...oops, heh-heeh. Sorry, I did not mean to offend.

LIU KANG: Okay, okay. So what else do you know about them.

COLLEEN: They are called the Delphi and this is the mysterious Mountain of the Delphi.

JOHNNY CAGE: Mountain of the what???

COLLEEN: This mountain is an object of both fear and reverence to them. It is said they are drawn to it as though by a magnet by a sub-conscious memory out of their dim past.

LIU KANG: Sure is strange looking, probably of volcanic origin or the result of some other cataclysmic restructuring of the earth's surface.

COLLEEN: True, Liu. Dwelling the caves in and around the base they never stray far from them. Legend speaks of a golden idol at the top which they worship as a god but dare not approach.

LIU KANG: Say, look. <he points upward> There's one of those caves, up there where the boulders came from.

JOHNNY CAGE: And there's another, right there behind...uh-oh. <panicked look>

Suddenly, Liu, Johnny and Colleen find themselves surrounded by a group of primitive humans, staring at them silently and impassive.

LIU KANG: Hello, <tries communicating> I'm Liu Kang, grand champion of mortal kombat and these are my friends Johnny Cage, Ninjara and Colleen?

JOHNNY CAGE: I don't think you're getting through, let me try. <bows> We are friends, friends?

LIU KANG: No luck.

COLLEEN: Perhaps it is my presence that disturbs them. In their eyes I'm a member of the dogs moving class. <speaks out> As a former member of the CnWo I assure you I consider people as equal to dogs and I wish to be a friend to all humans.

JOHNNY CAGE: Look at their expressions, unchanged, completely emotionless. They don't seem to understand a word we said.

VILLAGE ELDER: On the contrary I have understood every word that has been said.

JOHNNY CAGE: Well, at least one of you can speak.

VILLAGE ELDER: I am Tamarain, guardian of the Delphi. Why have you come here?

JOHNNY CAGE: We seek sanctuary from the CnWo, nothing more.

VILLAGE ELDER: This mountain has been our home for countless generations. But we endanger our security and freedom if we give aid to escaped slaves.

LIU KANG: We are not slaves, we are space explorers.

VILLAGE ELDER: Space explorers? <he sounds curious>

LIU KANG: We came from another planet in another time period called Earth.

VILLAGE ELDER: Did you say Earth?

LIU KANG: Yes, planet Earth in the decade of the 21st Century, circa 2005AD.

This brought startled-surprised looks on the faces of the people surrounding the fugitives including the leader who's face broke into a wide smile and he explained to everyone gathered about him.

VILLAGE ELDER: At last, the prophecy of the Delphi has been fulfilled.

JOHNNY CAGE: What prophecy are you talking about?

VILLAGE ELDER: It is written the survival of civilization is in the hands of men and women of Earth. That one day they will be sent from the gods above to lead us to the land of paradise where all things dwell together in peace and harmony.

COLLEEN: Amazing how that concept appears in the form of so many different and varied civilizations.

JOHNNY CAGE: Even among the Rovers?

COLLEEN: Even among the Rovers, though in our Book of Life it is a canosapien who will lead the way.

VILLAGE ELDER: Come, we must hurry. If the CnWo know of your origin you are in greater danger than I thought.

With that he started walking away when Kang stops him short.

LIU KANG: Hold it! You're taking us up to the spot where the boulders came down. How do we know it won't happen again?

VILLAGE ELDER: Graylok has been warned.

LIU KANG: <startled> Who is Graylock? A friend of yours.

VILLAGE ELDER: No, he is my son. I am his father. He is in charge of defensive positions on the mountain, young and impetuous and suspicious of strangers. But you are safe, just follow me. I give my word no harm will come to you.

And he starts walking away again, with the Mortal Kombat astronauts following in his wake, the villagers falling into step behind them for protection as they ascend a pathway leading up into the mountain itself.

JOHNNY CAGE: Where are you taking us?

VILLAGE ELDER: Up to the Great Hall in the mountain where my people gather in time of danger.

JOHNNY CAGE: And you believe the Rovers will overcome their fear of the Forbidden Zones and be back?

VILLAGE ELDER: Yes, they will return. Your encounter was with a small scouting party. This time they will come with a large squadron or platoon, perhaps led by General Hunter himself. Our only safety is in the mountain.

Tamarain was right. At that moment General Hunter was meeting with his officers and Doctor Blitz.

HUNTER: You've heard the reports from my scouts, Doctor. Cage, Kang, Ninjara and my ex-girlfriend have taken sanctuary in or near the Mountain of the Delphi. They must be captured at all cost and the Delphi destroyed as a warning to all humanity.

BLITZ: For once, general I am in complete agreement with you, jah. As long as they were isolated we could tolerate their existence. Now that isolation barrier has been broken, the contagient curse will spread throughout the land to destroy us all.

EXILE: Comrade general, sir. The Rovers under my command are not afraid of anything, yet they fear that mountain god. Have heard rumors about it protecting the Delphi from danger and would strike down any foolish mortals who dare threaten its people.

HUNTER: Foolish idiots, what are you afraid of, huh?! <glares at his troops> I will lead the invasion myself, personally. We move out now, ride!

Then came the sound of canosapien stormtroopers mounting their horses and galloping away, others on foot running along behind, all eager to begin the invasion.
