Fan Fiction - Scorpion's Tale
Chapter Two: The Tribe of Spells

Scorpion rushed to the portal of the Netherrealm so as to escape to the Nexus. As soon as he was through the portal, Scorpion ran to the green portal and thrust himself through it. He whirled round for what seemed like an eternity until he landed on the solid ground of earth.

Scorpion saw a young woman with two grappling hooks in a bag of leather. Scorpion felt like he had seen this girl before, he felt a strange sensation tingling in his body, but it wasn't the burning feeling, he felt sad, he actually had some feeling for this girl. The young woman spun around and stared at him. "Sc-Scorpion? Is that you?" She said slowly. "Yes, I am Scorpion. Who are you and why do you know my name?" Scorpion replied quickly. "Well," the girl said, ready to answer, "I'm Spider. Do I need to say anything else?" Scorpion started to see millions of memories flowing through his head as fast as lightning. His world started to whirl. "You-are m-y sister!" Scorpion said strained. Scorpion clutched his head in his hands, he then tripped over and his head collided with a large rock, which made him black out.

"Wake up, are you ok?" A sweet voice asked in his ear. Scorpion sprung to his feet and was about to strike Spider when he remembered who she was. "My sister…" Scorpion said, confused. "Spider, follow me in my quest to find eternal freedom" Scorpion said without realising it.

"Well, I don't know exactly what's wrong with you, sometimes I think your dead, 'cause your eyes are blank, I don't even know if you're looking at me." Spider said, trying to hold back tears. "Anyway, I reckon you have a spell on you" She said quickly.

"That's even more reason for me to go to Swift Owl" Scorpion muttered, but then he saw the bewildered look on Spider's face and explained what this was about. "So you're actually dead, you were after a geezer who can make ice 'cause you thought he killed your family. But then a man told you to look for a bloke called Quan Chi, and you were put in a dingy prison where you killed a guard who had consumed loads of souls. Then you met a ninja called Rain who helped you escape and told you to look for a Shaman named Swift Owl who'll help you come back to life." Spider then took a deep breath. "Have I missed any thing out?" She asked. Scorpion was about to answer when he saw a shadow in the portal. "Move!" Scorpion whispered as he shoved Spider behind a rock. "Hey what's the - mmppphhh" her voice was muffled as Scorpion put his hand over her mouth and placed a finger on his mask where his mouth would have been. A woman came through the portal slowly. Scorpion drew his sword from the scabbard silently, and jumped out in front of the Indian dressed female. "What is your business here?" He asked with his sword up against her throat.

" I - I'm just w - walking back to my tribe" She said hurriedly. Scorpion
pressed harder to her throat, "What is the name of the Grand Shaman?"
"Sw - Swift Owl" She answered in a shaky voice. Scorpion released his threat from her neck. "Take me there, but first, what is your name?" He asked kindly.
"Night Fox" She replied with respect. Scorpion gestured to Spider to come here. "Night Fox, I think you will take a liking to Spider, but I must ask you to keep us in the shadows as you lead us, I don't wish to be found" Scorpion said darkly.

They were, like Scorpion asked, keeping to the shadows, but Night Fox and Spider were forever in conversation while they were making their way to the Tribe of Spells as Night Fox called it. Once they reached the village Scorpion tensed himself for the fight Rain said they would give to him.

"Two strangers have entered our tribe, if they defeat the strongest male and female of our village, we will allow them to have any of their wishes. Outsiders, enter the Arenas." Scorpion and Spider obeyed the mysterious voice and strode into an arena each. "Warriors, step into the arena." The voice continued. A large man with a feather strapped onto his head stepped into Scorpion's arena and introduced himself. "I am an assistant Shaman of the great Swift Owl. I am Night Wolf." Just as he finished speaking an attractive woman entered Spider's ring. "I am the also an assistant Shaman of the tribe. I am Leopard." Then the Indian woman bowed and continued into her fighting stance, as did Spider. "Male fighters, take a seat and watch the female kombatants do battle." They both obeyed and sat on a bench each. Once again, the voice sounded, "Round 1, Fight!"

The two women immediately sprung their attacks on each other. Leopard swung her fist at Spider, who caught the wrist and threw her onto the floor, which made Leopard spit blood with the force. But Leopard truly lived up to her name and jumped onto her feet with the sleekness of a jungle cat. She then struck Spider mercilessly with countless blows to the stomach and head. Leopard then stopped hitting the woman for a moment but then gave one last blow to the face that made Spider fall to the floor. Spider lifted her head off the ground only to cough out some blood onto the floor. She could feel her head starting to spin, and then she fell unconscious with the pain throbbing on her head where Leopard left the mark of her last blow. Leopard then hollered to the crowd and unsheathed a knife. The audience hollered back and just as Leopard was about to throw the knife into Spider's neck when a spear suddenly tore through her hand.

Scorpion stood with his palm the same level as Leopard's pierced hand and began to speak in a voice shaking with anger, "Don't - touch - my sister - with - that knife" he said with his words hitting Leopard with such force that made her crouch in fear. Scorpion felt no pity and pulled his spear back from her hand, which made her whimper in pain. Scorpion picked up his sibling with care and hurried over to the Shaman's tent so that Swift Owl himself could heal her, but then many tribes' people blocked his way to the entrance. "No hellspawn people may enter here." A man said confidently. "Please allow me through, I may come from Hell but the girl doesn't, I only wish to enter this holy tent so that my sister may be healed, and I would hopefully have your noble Shaman resurrect me. Now please let us through." Scorpion said with desperation clear in his voice. When the tribes' people finally agreed to let him through, Scorpion walked briskly into the large tent.

As soon as he entered he felt a strong aura flowing in the room, and in the middle of the tent, Swift Owl meditating in thin air. Swift Owl sensed their presence and immediately flipped open his eyes and stood up to greet them. Scorpion noticed that Swift Owl could not walk, but instead floated with the immense psychic power he possessed. "Greetings mortal, you have come to seek my powers of healing and resurrection. I know. I sensed your speech outside. Now, I can only give you one of your wishes, what is it to be? Her health or your life?" The Shaman asked quickly in a misty voice. Scorpion stood there in deep thought. After a few long seconds, Scorpion answered. Swift Owl nodded at his decision and summoned great power from his fingertips, chanted some mystic words under his breath and thrust the healing spell into the young woman's body. Spider's body jerked and twitched into frenzy and then, she stopped abruptly. Her eyes flicked open and she whispered, "Huh? What's going on? I thought I was fighting Leopard."

"Don't worry, you're okay now." His brother replied softly. "Sleep, rest, can we stay here until morning?" He asked Swift Owl.
"Yes, but only until morning." He said kindly.

The next morning Spider threw herself onto Scorpion, which made him sit up fast and look around in surprise, but then he saw Spider laughing openly and smiled under his golden mask. Come sister, we must leave," he said seriously. The two siblings walked to the gate, where Night Wolf met them. "Before you go you must remember this, I understand that you are looking for Quan Chi. I know where he is. He is in The Realm of Order, and so are many other Mortal Kombat heroes and villains. Now you may go." He ended with honour. Scorpion and Spider remembered this as they ventured to the Realm of Order. Scorpion still had a score to settle with the pale face sorcerer.
