Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Quan Chi Render Posted On: Jul 08 2009, 01:44 AM
Today Ed Boon published a render of Quan Chi from Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe on Twitter:
Ed Boon: Excited about MK9 and WB, but wish we could have released DLC for MKvsDC. Here's a peek..
Too bad that downloadable content was never released for the game. Quan Chi was already in the story line and it would have make perfect sense to have him as a playable character.
Kotaku: Mortal Kombat Team Looking To Split From Midway Posted On: Apr 06 2009, 11:44 PM
Kotaku has recently reported that the Mortal Kombat development team is looking for a way to leave Midway.
From the article:
Mortal Kombat Team Looking To Split From Midway
Midway's team of developers responsible for the 17-year-old Mortal Kombat franchise is currently in active talks with other publishers to leave the company and for its own studio, sources tell Kotaku.
The MK team, which comprises about 50 developers, is said to be in discussions with a handful of unnamed publishers, with senior members of the group handling negotiations for a possible exodus from Midway. According to Midway sources who wished to remain anonymous, one of the catalysts for the move is a lack of payment in bonuses due to MK team members based on meeting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales targets.
Sources said that the Mortal Kombat team has become increasingly "frustrated" with the handling of Midway's bankruptcy filing. MK staffers also expressed irritation from being in the position of delivering million unit-selling titles on time and on a bi-annual schedule while other projects at the company languish in development.
Midway representatives, when contacted for comment, opted not to discuss the Mortal Kombat team's plans, saying that the team was in "good shape." They did, however, want to stress that Midway itself is not withholding any owed payment to the Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe developers.
"Midway is not refusing to pay out those bonuses," PR reps told us. "It's the unsecured creditors committee that is refusing to allow us to pay them. They're the ones holding that up."
If the MK team—who are apparently not under contract at Midway—does find a new studio to call home at a publisher other than Midway, the fighting game franchise may not go with them. That, as well as having to abandon work on the follow-up to MK vs. DC, tentatively titled Mortal Kombat 9, was going to be "tough."
Should the key Mortal Kombat talent leave, it could be a substantial blow to the ailing Midway, which has already closed and consolidated many of its in-house development teams.
Mortal Kombat Secrets Goes To School Posted On: Mar 01 2009, 12:59 PM
Yep that's right. If Mortal Kombat Secrets was a child, this year it should start going to school. Why? Because it just turned 7.
The first of march is here (again). Time to a look back at what we have accomplished, time to look forward and make some plans for the future of the site.
We all had a pretty amazing, exciting, shocking, terrifying and sad year. This year just had it all:
Here is a small list of the news that really made this year what it is:
Excitement
The excitement of the gamers for the not yet announced Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe was so big that a month before Midway Gamer's Day the internet was full of rumors, fake/false information and hundreds of people who claimed that they know someone, who knows someone, whose uncle works at Midway and told them that...
Probably the most successful one was a fake trailer, that appeared on YouTube and actually managed to fool each and everyone of us at one moment or another.
I am sure that all of you remember this moment but it is and will still be worth mentioning even after 10 years. The big excitement about the upcoming announcement of the next Mortal Kombat game let to an explosive first reaction. Mortal Kombat Secrets was the site that confirmed that the title of the game will be Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe causing a reaction that blew up the entire Mortal Kombat Community. People didn't want to believe, people called the site and me personally liars, people threaten to leave the franchise forever if the story turns out to be true.
A few days later the official announcement was made. This only made things worse. The number of shocked, angry and disappointed people only escalated. Fortunately no one accused us of anything any more. No one apologized for everything that was written about the site all over the Internet either, but that's a completely different story. We survived it and moved on.
This entire situation continued a lot longer then most people expected, showing the MK Team and the world just how passionate and protective the Mortal Kombat Comunity is.
Things started to calm down after more gameplay details were revealed.
The most amazing thing surely is the release of Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. The game left some of the fans with mixed feelings but it has already sold more then 2 million copies worldwide and when the numbers are speaking even the gods are silent.
Sadness
The success of one game alone can't save an entire company. And unfortunately the financial state of Midway isn't good at all. The company can still operate under the protection of Chapter 11 but the question marks still remains.
The next Mortal Kombat game is currently in development. What will happen with it if Midway's attempts of saving themselves fail. Will the next installment of the game be rushed, just to win some more extra cash, will the next game even make it. With the company in bad shape, the future of the franchise has never been so unclear as it is today.
During our next year online, we plan to expand the content of the site even more and cover the development of next Mortal Kombat game.
We have already put things in motion for some great new projects and features that the site will offer in the future.
We are grateful to you for being a loyal visitors and we promise to do our best not to disappoint in the future just as we never did in the past.
Thank you for making us the great website that we are.
Happy Birthday Mortal Kombat Secrets

Midway Files For Chapter 11 Reorganization Posted On: Feb 15 2009, 11:33 PM
It is not a very big secret that Midway's financial situation is pretty bad. As a next step in its fight for survival Midway has filed for chapter 11 reorganization, which will allow it to continue operating for the moment. From the press release:
MIDWAY'S U.S. OPERATIONS FILE FOR CHAPTER 11 REORGANIZATION
Company notes strong underlying fundamentals, but cites recent change in control as the key trigger in need for planned, orderly reorganization
Midway's European operations are unaffected and continue business as normal
CHICAGO – February 12, 2009 – Midway Games Inc. (NYSE: MWY) today announced that the company and its U.S. subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The filing does not include the company's non-U.S. operations, which will continue business as normal.
In its filing with the Bankruptcy Court, the company cited that the November 28, 2008, change in ownership triggered accelerated repurchase obligations relating to two classes of Midway debt, which Midway anticipated it would be unable to satisfy.
"This was a difficult but necessary decision," said Midway Chairman, President and CEO Matt Booty. "We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure."
"Midway enters this process with strong underlying fundamentals, as evidenced by solid fourth quarter sales that exceeded expectations in spite of a challenging retail and general economic environment," Booty added. "Overall, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales are approaching two million units shipped, TNA iMPACT! has shipped approximately one million units, and our Game Party franchise has sold close to three million units in total."
Midway expects that Chapter 11 protection will enable the company to conduct its business operations as usual. To that end, Midway is seeking approval from the court for a variety of First Day Motions enabling the company to continue managing its operations in the ordinary course. These motions are typical of the restructuring process, and approval is regularly granted.

GameSpot: Ultimate MK3, Worms dubbed XBLA Hits Posted On: Nov 13 2008, 12:37 AM
GameSpot has reported that there will be a price drop for the XBLA version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. From the article:
It's been a while since Microsoft last branded an Xbox Live Arcade title an Arcade Hit. However, if the publisher's own Web site is to be believed, it appears as if a trio of long-standing XBLA titles is poised to be added to the discount program.
With Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe out next week, Microsoft will be giving 360 gamers a cut rate on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The online-enabled arcade fighter garnered solid reviews when it scrapped its way onto Microsoft's online platform in October 2006. Joining Midway's fighter will be Team 17's over-the-top annelid arms race Worms, as well as Oberon Media's casual action title Feeding Frenzy.
Currently, all three titles still bear their original 800 Microsoft points ($10) sticker tag. However, Microsoft's Web site indicates that once the official Arcade Hits branding goes into effect, they will drop to the budget-line 400 Microsoft points ($5) price. As of press time, the publisher had not responded to requests for clarification as to when the price will be enacted.

VideoGamer: The Joker fatality uncensored for Europe Posted On: Nov 06 2008, 05:39 PM
VideoGamer has published a news in which Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Senior Producer Hans Lo reveals that Joker's Fatality might not be censored in the European version of the game. From the article:
But yesterday we spoke to senior producer Hans Lo about the changes:
"That's partly true [that the fatality has been edited]... You know, for North America we have a Teen rating, and teen really means 13 and above. Thirteen is pretty young, you have to admit. For Europe we have a 15, 16+ rating - so it's a bit different."
When pushed further about whether or not different cuts of the game exist, Lo replied: "I don't know, maybe! I think you might have to go take a look."
Minutes later we saw the complete fatality for ourselves. Will this encourage US purists to import the game from Europe? We'll have to see.

IGN: Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Progress Report Posted On: Oct 28 2008, 12:42 AM
Yesterday IGN published an article that gives us more information on the progress of Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe and more Story Mode details:.
This begins chapter one, a Flash-centered experience. See, rather than have you pick a character and take him or her through the game, MK vs. DC will assign you characters to play as for set amounts of time. Set in a cutscene, Deathstroke comes across some guy that owes him money, beheads the cheapskate, and then the Flash shows up. The game moves from cinema to gameplay, and it's up to you to take Deathstroke down. Obviously, being the first chapter in the game, the battles are going to start out soft and get progressively harder. This initial battle is a chance to practice your lightning quick attacks that have you rushing from one side of the screen to the other while delivering punches and so on; thankfully, you can access character-specific move sets from the pause screen. When the fight is over -- there isn't an opportunity to perform one of your two Brutalities -- Wonder Woman calls Flash about a disturbance, the Flash's eyes ominously glow yellow, he stumbles around for a second, and then the hero is off to Gotham to lend a hand.
In the city that Wayne built, Catwoman's just pulled off a heist, and the Scarlet Speedster is the first on the scene. Again, the game moves from cutscene to gameplay and it's up to you to take down Selina. However, in this fight a two-tiered yellow meter is building beneath your health bar. This is the Rage Meter. When full, you can press both of your triggers/R2 and L2 and unleash that yellow glow from Flash's eyes. While the meter slowly drains, you'll be in Rage Mode and able to break through your opponent's blocks and generally just wreck shop by dealing more damage.
So, after dispatching Catwoman, Kano suddenly pops onto the scene and the Flash has to take him down. However, when the fight's over and the Flash has won, the yellow Rage gets released in a cutscene and the Flash loses control. With the Flash ready to kill Kano, Batman arrives and ends up fighting his friend. Some cool stuff happens that I won't completely ruin here, and the pair ends up back at the Batcave trying to figure out what just happened. Suddenly, the Flash disappears, Scorpion appears, and the Batman-focused chapter two begins with a bang.

Kotaku: The Joker's Fatality Gets T-Rated Posted On: Oct 26 2008, 01:47 PM
Yesterday Kotaku published a small article that totally blew up the entire Mortal Kombat Kommunity. Everyone's favorite and so highly used as advertisement for Mortal Kombat VS. DC UniverseJoker's Fatality was toned down. The most funny and shocking part of the Fatality now takes place of camera.
Being one of the very few people outside of the development team, who actually had the chance not only to see but also to perform the original version of this finishing move, I have to say that censoring it, is a great loss to the game. This Fatality was a lot better even than most of the Finishing Moves in the previous M-RatedMortal Kombat games:
First the good news. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is still great fun. We played it from the comfort of the Kotaku couch this week and had a blast. Now the bad news. That amazing Joker fatality, the one where... well, if you haven't seen it yet, we'd suggest you watch it now. It's awesome.
Anyway, it's been changed up a bit, toned down to just slightly less than awesome to secure that highly coveted T-rating that Midway and Warner Bros. are so adamant about. In the latest build, Joker still whips out his prank gun, a "BANG!" flag unfurling. Unfortunately, you won't see the follow up of Joker shooting someone in the face; that actually happens off screen now, the headshot safely out of sight.
The Joker's Fatality wasn't the only one to be hit hard by the ESRB people. One of Kitana's Fatalities had to be changed too. No one will miss the original one here, because no one actually saw it:
Another Fatality that's seen some revision was Kitana's, one that involved her opponent being impaled by her trademark blade-fans. Initially, the first fan went into the torso, the other into the forehead. That second was a T-rating no-no. Double fans delivered to the chest, however, that's a T-rated way to end someone's life.
We are still expecting an official word from Midway which will most probably come with the next MKast.
Kotaku: MK VS. DCU Preview - Model Viewer and DLC Plans Posted On: Oct 26 2008, 01:33 PM
Kotaku has posted a new Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Hands-On Preview that goes into details on some of the new features in the game. From the article:
The entirety of the plot should be considered off-canon. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a standalone entry, similar to DC's own Elseworlds line of comic books.
And speaking of Elseworlds, Boon brought up, when we asked about alternate costumes, that they're trying to secure some of those alternate reality outfits for the DC side. We should just expect palette swaps for now, Boon said. Trying to get Superman's Soviet costume from Superman: Red Son, for example, was a bit of a challenge. Perhaps as DLC? Boon says they're having internal discussions now to figure that out exactly which alteranate looks and costumes they want to go after.
After the story mode, we got a look at the Combo Challenge, a series combo completion tasks that's not just excellent practice, it's its own mini-game. The concept isn't new, by any means, just a bit more streamlined. You'll see the combo string for your character as a supertitle that you'll need to perform. Any failed attempt to pull it off can be quickly restarted with the Select or Back button. Mostly painless. Captain Marvel looked to have about a dozen combos of increasing complexity. Fortunately, the player can just bounce around the list — they don't have to be completed sequentially.
Another nice bonus is the model viewer, located under the Extras option in the main menu. It's extremely straightforward fan service. You simply have a flexible camera with which you can pan, zoom or rotate around each character's 3D model, sans HUD, to see all their details. Again, not groundbreaking, but a nice feature that we wish every game would include.
GiantBomb: MK vs. DCU: Story, Kombos, and More Posted On: Oct 26 2008, 01:19 PM
GiantBomb has published a Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Hands-On Preview based on a nearly completed version of the game. Here is a small part of the article:
This is the third different version of the game I've seen over the course of its development, and as a nearly-complete game, it feels pretty different than it did back at PAX, and vastly different from how it felt back at E3. Back then, the game seemed fun and also kind of simple--but apparently that's just because the development team wasn't close to finished. Today, the game feels like it retains that level of play, but it also appears to have much deeper, skill-based angle to it, one focused on the proper timing of your moves and combos, resulting in wild juggles, much like the stuff you'd expect to see in the early games in the series.
As I was getting worked over quite badly by Midway's Paulo Garcia, I could see some of the horrific things he was doing to me were going to take some skill to pull off. This game doesn't seem to be about the basic memorization of combo strings, like some other 3D fighters (including the past couple of MK games) have placed an emphasis on. Instead, it's about making sure that you can land a couple of ground hits that end in a pop-up, letting you work in some special moves and sort of fling your opponent around the screen. In the case of Wonder Woman, well, she uses her lasso to make sure you get to experience every little corner of the screen as you're being tossed around.
Part of the article is a video Interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon:
GameSpot: MK VS. DCU Story and New Character Impressions Posted On: Oct 26 2008, 01:02 PM
GameSpot has published a Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Hands-On that focuses on the Story Mode:
Based on what we played, MK vs DC Universe is shaping up to be one of the strongest entries in the MK series in a good while. The fighting system is feeling good. The revamped system feels familiar but freshened up, Although we'll reserve proper judgment until we've spent some time with the final game, we're definitely pleased by where it's going. As far as story goes, the game's got a solid premise that's actually an interesting watch. The arcade, two player, and Kombo Challenge modes are looking like nice complements to the story mode. Our big question now hovers around how the game will play online and what the downloadable content plans are, since we can think of a good dozen DC and MK characters we'd like to see in the game. Stay tuned for those answers, and our final word on the game, after its release on November 16.
Part of the update are also 10 new screenshots from the game:

Captain Marvel Render Posted On: Jul 25 2008, 12:31 AM
Midway has released a new render from Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe and with it add a little confusion among the fans. The render is of Captain Marvel but it was named Shazam. Shazam is actually the sorcerer who gave Billy Batson the power to transform into the superhero Captain Marvel. Is this just a mistake or there is more to it?
Ed Boon's personal website, Noob.Com has been updated today. An image with the text "Tobias?" has replaced the image from the movie "There will be blood". What does this mean?
Is John Tobias, Mortal Kombat co-creator back or is it just a sign that Noob Saibot will be in Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe ? No one can tell, at least not yet.
We will report as soon as we find out more, s stay close!

IGN: E3 2008: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Hands-on Posted On: Jul 16 2008, 10:50 PM
IGN.com has posted a Hands-On preview of Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe based on the E3 Demo version of the game:
Today was my first chance to actually play this game, and I have to say it actually feels pretty good. Trailers and screens had made the gameplay look a little stiff in my opinion, but once I got the controller and started darting around the screen and pulling off combos with the D-pad, everything flowed nicely. The character select screen had 20 slots -- ten red, ten blue -- and had three characters available for each franchise. Representing Mortal Kombat was Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Sonya; while Superman, Batman, and Flash made up the DC side.

We only know the rest of the line-up through vague descriptions from a separate source, such as Prototypical Super Hero, Mystical Super Hero, Amazon Queen, Sexy Villainness, Crazy Villain, and Military Superhero. Many of those aren't hard to figure out, but series creator Ed Boon says the full line-up has yet to be correctly guessed by fans.

GameSpot: Ed Boon Interview + New Screenshots Posted On: Jun 25 2008, 12:38 AM
Today GameSpot has posted an interview with Mortal Kombat's Co-Creator Ed Boon. In this interview he confirms that Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe will indeed have Fatalities and gives some information on what is going to be shown on E3 next month. Part of the update are 5 new screenshots from the game. Some of those screenshots show blood and really amazing looking cuts and bruises.
Here is a small peace of the interview:
GS: Have you made any more headway on the fatality versus finishing moves?
EB: Yes we have. All of the MK characters and all of the DC villains will have fatalities. The DC heroes who don't kill that often will have brutalities that will function just like fatalities but don't actually kill the opponent.
GS: What can we look for at E3?
EB: We will be showing four characters and two arenas.
GS: So now that the door's been opened with MK vs. DC, do you think fans might get MK vs. Street Fighter?
EB: I've never held back my enthusiasm for doing a project like MK vs. Street Fighter. I still think it would be a blast to do. But the reality of the situation is that we are two different companies. That's a tough obstacle to overcome. It's kind of like doing Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter, Die Hard vs. Rambo, Coke vs. Pepsi, "Family Ties" vs. "Growing Pains," Alien vs. Preda...never mind...you get the idea.

Scorpion's New Look Revealed Posted On: May 08 2008, 12:50 AM
NEO+, a Polish gaming magazine has published the first clear images of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe.
From the quality of the image and the its angle we cannot say whether this is an in-game screenshot or not. But this is definitely the way Scorpion is going to look in Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. Just take a closer look on the very first Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe image, that appeared on Noob.Com and you will see a lot of similarities.
The image was posted by Mortal Kombat Online's forum member Sarumanthewhite for which we are very grateful.

Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Teaser Trailer + Interview Posted On: Apr 18 2008, 07:32 PM
The time has finally come for us all to see the first Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Teaser Trailer. As promised yesterday GamesRadar has posted the first exclusive movie for the game.
WhoIs Domain Information Posted On: Apr 18 2008, 11:07 AM
We did some research on the domain name for the official Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe website - Worldscollide.Com, and some interesting information came out, information that we don't really know how to interpret:
Registrant:
Holland & Hart
555 17th Street Suite 3200
Denver, CO 80202
US
Domain Name: WORLDSCOLLIDE.COM
Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Zone Contact:
Holland & Hart
Holland & Hart
555 17th Street Suite 3200
Denver, CO 80202
US
(303)669-3757
Domain created on 20-Jun-2002
Domain expires on 21-Jun-2010
Last updated on 20-Feb-2008
What is really interesting is that Holland & Hart is a law firm. And also that the domain name record exists since 20-Jun-2002.
The reason for this is currently unexplained. Probably Holland & Hart is the previous owner of the domain and the record hasn't been updated by Midway on purpose.
First Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Render Posted On: Apr 18 2008, 10:39 AM
Yesterday a lot fans remained with mixed feelings. The people who were at the press conference were not allowed to give away any information from the 8 minute presentation of Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. So we all will have to wait just a little bit longer for new information.
Fellow Mortal Kombat fan site Mortal Kombat Online posted the first promotional image for the game.
On this image you see two of the characters in the game, Sub-Zero and Batman.
The URL of the official website (still inactive) is also present: Worldscollide.Com.
So, what is the new information after yesterday:
1. We have three confirmed characters: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Batman and Superman ?.
2. Link to the official site.
3. Confirmation for a lot more information today.
The list is pretty short, we know. But that's only because visitors of this site knew about the name of the game (Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe) for quite some time.
As for DC Comics. This is probably just the next step in their plan to reintroduce their characters in a more darker world. Previous attempts are: Superman: Doomsday and Smallville (both are getting really serious and dark at moments).
If you are not familiar with the DC Comics Universe just visit their website.
What characters can we expect to see from the DC Comics Universe: Superman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Aqua Man, Cyborg, The Flash, Supergirl and a lot more. Who will appear in the game only time can tell us.
Keep an eye on Mortal Kombat Secrets as we continue to track the events from Midway Gamers' Day for you.
Noob.Com: Times Up Posted On: Apr 18 2008, 01:42 AM
Just as we promised, we continue to follow all events around Mortal Kombat 8. Ed Boon's personal websiteNoob.Com just got updated with what might be the very first Mortal Kombat 8 image. The picture is very blurry and has the filename rain2.jpg:
We think that the fighter on the image is Scorpion which probably means that Rain might be the one he is fighting with.
GamesRadar Teaser Image Posted On: Apr 18 2008, 12:49 AM
Only a few hours separate us from the moment when all questions will be answered. Although we, here at Mortal Kombat Secrets, reported that the next installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise will be a Versus game, currently entitled Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe (see previous news), a lot fans remained skeptic and didn't want to believe. Today something happened, something that only backups our story from April 15.
Today GamesRadar posted a teaser image with promise of an exclusive video from the next Mortal Kombat 8 tomorrow. But they should have looked much more closely at the filename. The image is named "MKDC blog--article_image". Not to mention the blatantly obvious Superman silhouette in the picture itself.
The picture itself is probably just a cheap PhotoShop work, just to make the news more exciting, much like our image from the previous update.
What is more interesting, the image has been removed from the site, only a couple of hours later. Maybe Midway made them remove it, maybe not. Fortunately the image was just removed from the news they posted, but not from their server. So, it can still be accessed here.
Things are getting really exciting as the time nears when Mortal Kombat 8 will be shown for the first time to the public. Two are the possible outcomes:
- It is all true and we have the first Mortal Kombat Versus title. (Most likely)
- Midway have really spend a lot of time and have done a really great job to foul us all.
We will find the truth soon enough.
Keep an eye on Mortal Kombat Secrets as we keep tracking the events from Midway Gamers' Day for you.
Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Posted On: Apr 15 2008, 12:02 AM
Do you still remember one of the very first rumors that hit the net. Exactly!!! It was that the next Mortal Kombat game (currently known as Mortal Kombat 8) is going to be a Versus title, combining both Mortal Kombat and DC characters. However time has passed and this rumor was forgotten. But today it was made clear that this rumor is true.
In preparation for Midway Gamer's Day, that is in just a few days, Midway has added the next Mortal Kombat game in the list of titles that are going to be released in the second half of the year. The game is listed as:
Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe
This means that we are really going to get a "VS" Mortal Kombat game.
What effect is all this going to have on the Mortal Kombat community is to early to predict.
Keep an eye on Mortal Kombat Secrets. We will update with more information as soon as we find out more.
And remember you heard this news first here at Mortal Kombat Secrets - The most informative Mortal Kombat website on the net.
Update - 04.15.2008
Due to the fact that this news totally turned the entire community upside down, and led to a lot of accusations and negative feedback on the trustfulness of Mortal Kombat Secrets, here is a short explanation about how this news was born.
MK8 Information to be Revealed at Midway Gamer's Day Posted On: Mar 12 2008, 10:03 PM
During Midway's Q4 2007 conference call Midway Games' CEO David Zucker revealed that the company is finally planning on announcing some details about the next installment of Mortal Kombat, currently only known as Mortal Kombat 8. This will happen on April 17th (remember the countdown on Noob.Com) at Midway Gamer's Day event. Below is a short transcript from the conference call:
"And then later in the year, we expect to launch the next generation debut of our perennial top selling franchise Mortal Kombat. The Mortal Kombat franchise has sold over 7 million units during the PS2 console cycle and we will be unveiling details on the next iteration at our Gamers Day event in mid April."
Leaked Mortal Kombat 8 Teaser Trailer? Posted On: Mar 10 2008, 11:30 AM
Yesterday a possible Mortal Kombat 8 Teaser Trailer has been leaked on YouTube by a person who is supposed to be a MIDWAY employer. The video shows the following lines:
DARKER
KOMPLETELY REINVENTED
NOVEMBER 2008
Raiden's new look is also shown at the end of the movie.
Please note that this news is still unconfirmed and there is a possibility that this trailer is fake. We will update again as soon as we find out more.
Update: 03.12.2008
The teaser trailer has been confirmed as being FAKE.
However, this whole story was a nice warm up for what's coming.
After years of inactivity, Noob.com has finally been updated.
But don't expect to see new Mortal Kombat 8 information there, at least not yet. The only thing that is currently displayed on this site is an image with its name.
Mortal Kombat 8 For PC? Posted On: Oct 18 2007, 04:14 PM
OK, before you start screaming happily, read the entire news please.
Currently Mortal Kombat 8 is announced as Next Generation MK game for the next generation of consoles. These are PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and Wii. Due to hardware limitations we exclude Nintendo Wii. It is unclear if the Wii is capable of handling the Unreal Engine 3.
Right here is actually where this news comes from. According to the official Unreal Technology website, Mortal Kombat 8 is being developed for PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and PC. It will be nice to see the Return of Mortal Kombat to the PC. Any official announcement from Midway is still missing.
Nitara's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Bio Posted On: Jun 27 2007, 11:57 AM
Midway has finally released another character bio from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon: Nitara. If things keep going like this we will probably get the last bio a day or two before the release of Mortal Kombat 8.
The realm of Vaeternus had regained independence from Shao Kahn. I was revered for my part in the victory. The restructuring of our civilization was well underway; soon we would regain our former majesty. Unfortunately our honor was not all that had returned from ages past....
Reports of genocide raced throughout the restored Moroi Empire. Many vampires had been slain; none had yet survived an attack to describe the assailants. I set forth to uncover the truth. Examining the wounds of the dead, I came to the disheartening conclusion that these murders were not the work of a band of assassins. The victims had fallen to the blade known as Datusha, the bane of the Moroi. The ancient kriss had found a new wielder. It had returned for vampire blood.
Though Datusha's origin has been lost to history, its purpose is clear: It lives to kill as many vampires as it can. We are a powerful race; there are few who threaten our immortality. It has been speculated by the Elders that the sword itself may be our one "natural" predator.
The accursed blade finds a wielder and corrupts them into believing they are slaying for some higher purpose. In the past it has chosen a vampire as its puppet. The last was Kahil Grigesh. Though he was driven mad by the power of the sword, he was strong enough to eventually overcome its mind control. To atone for slaying his fellow vampires, he took the sword into the Netherrealm, where he committed hara-kiri, imprisoning Datusha in Hell.
It was believed that the sword would never find another vampire wielder in that desolate place. Safe from slaughter, our numbers had exceeded those of any recorded era. But with Datusha's return, vampires were being rapidly driven to extinction. Something needed to be done!
The Elders researched ancient vampire texts, hoping to find some means of defeating the blade. An obscure Edenian prophecy they found might hold the key. It describes a force of great power concealed in a crater there. I was commanded to find this power and use it against our foe.
As I made for Edenia, I came upon a massacre. The bodies of my vampire kin lay everywhere. Amidst the carnage stood a woman in white wielding the unholy kriss. Enraged, I did battle with her -- but she was too powerful. I broke away, luring her out of Vaeternus as I escaped.
As long as her attention is fixed on me, the vampire nation will be safe. I must draw Ashrah closer to the crater and use the Edenian weapon against her. This may be our only hope of eliminating the blade once and for all. May the Moroi Live Eternal!
Mortal Kombat 8 Is Under Development Posted On: Jun 28 2006, 06:20 PM
GameDaily has published an interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon. In it he confirms that the development of Mortal Kombat 8 has already begun. Here is a part of the article:
At this time I figured I should ask the one thing I've wanted to know since Armageddon was announced. I asked Boon when Mortal Kombat would be making its way to next generation consoles. With a smile Boon told me that the next Mortal Kombat (MK8 for now) will be on next generation consoles and they've already started work on it. It almost certainly won't be hitting next year, but it should be arriving sometime in 2008. In addition, the game will not use the same engine as Armageddon and the past few MK titles, so we'll be getting an all new Mortal Kombat.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Previews Posted On: Feb 11 2006, 01:01 PM
Both GameDaily and Shacknews preview the upcoming Mortal Kombat game: Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. From the articles:
ShackNews
But here's the thing: the last time we had bosses selectable by default in an MK game (MK Trilogy), the balancing left a little to be desired... which is putting it lightly. So what about in Armageddon? Will Shao Kahn, Goro and others be able to easily lay the smack down on other "normal" fighters such as Sub-Zero, Sonya, and Kano? "The boss characters are going to go through the same development and balancing as the normal characters in Armageddon," assures Boon. "In Trilogy, [the bosses] had to be pieced together with the 'boss-only' assets created for MK1, 2 and 3. Because of this, they ... never got the same treatment as the other characters, which were balanced from their original arcade games."
By now you may be wondering exactly how this game appeals to classic MK fans who were shunned by the move to 3D (and less strategic gameplay). Well, Midway has declared that this is the MK that will tie up all the loose ends and allow the development team to move on to the next generation with a completely new look and feel to the series. This doesn't mean you won't be seeing a few of the staple characters in Mortal Kombat 8, but it does mean that fans of the classic MK titles will be rid of the current fighting engine when the next generation of Mortal Kombat is finally upon us. Sorry MK fans, but the 3D MK games have turned a lot of old school fans away from the series who would love to get back into things with a brand new fighting engine.
