Games Convention 2008 - Reviews - Hands-On
When we first announced that the new Mortal Kombat is going to be a DC crossover named Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe we turned the entire Mortal Kombat community upside down. People didn't want to believe, called us liars, and so on... Only a day later the official announcement was made. But this only made things worse. Fans were devastated. A lot of them said that this is the end of Mortal Kombat. That this was a big, bad sell out for the Mortal Kombat franchise. No one could see the whole idea in perspective. But then... things started to calm down as more information was revealed. Of course there are still people hating the idea, but now there are a lot more who accept it and are willing to see where this experiment is going to lead and what benefits there will be for Mortal Kombat franchise. If there is one thing, that the Mortal Kombat fans are really good at, it is the whole jumping to conclusion thing, before they know the whole story.
My thought at first was “Why DC?”. Looking back right now, I can say
“Why not.”. Obviously there is no decision that can lead to a major
change in something as big as Mortal Kombat and satisfy everybody. If
there are Babalities in a future Mortal Kombat game, a lot of people
will say “Babalities, are they crazy?”. If there are no, then there will
be people who will say “please, bring Babalities back!”. |
