Fan Fiction - A Tale of Scorpion & SubZero - Chapter 1: Mortal Kombat

Scorpion kneeled over SubZero's dead body, his face lightened by the faint light of a torch on the cold, gray stone wall in front of him. He rested SubZero's head in his hands and a single solitary tear rolled down his cheek.

One week earlier...

"FIGHT!" yelled the ominous voice of Shao Kahn. Scorpion lowered into his Hapkido stance and SubZero lowered down into Shotokan. SubZero circled Scorpion searching for a weak spot in his enemy's stance, he found none. Scorpion scanned SubZero for weaknesses as well, he found none either. Neither him nor SubZero had any flaws about them. Scorpion made the first attack, he shot a spear attached to a rope out of his hand. It struck SubZero by the leg, making him fall to the ground. As SubZero was dragged by the leg across the ring, he felt warm, red blood run down from the wound in his leg. He cringed at the pain he felt from the spear in his leg. Scorpion reeled SubZero in like a fish in a pond. Scorpion grabbed SubZero by his face and pulled him up, little did Scorpion know that SubZero had been forming a ball of frozen energy in his hand. Scorpion hit SubZero in the face, and then again, and then repeatedly afterwards. "That's right Scorpion keep stalling, you're giving me all the time I need" thought SubZero as the ball grew. Scorpion went in for the final attack but hesitated. In the stands he sighted the worried face of Frost, SubZero's lover. This momentary hesitation was all the time that SubZero had needed to finish his energy ball. Scorpion saw this at the last available moment and went for SubZero hand. SubZero shot the ball but Scorpion had knocked his hand away from him. The ball flew towards the stands and froze a common peasant. The medics were already on the scene and SubZero and Scorpion were already back to fighting, obviously unfazed by SubZero's flawed plan. Scorpion grabbed and twisted SubZero's arm, bringing SubZero to his knees. SubZero let out a quiet plea for mercy. "You spare me not and then expect me to spare you!?" Scorpion said with a distinct tone of disgust. "Please Scorpion, I beg of you! My lover is bearing a child in 2 months! Please spare my life." SubZero said. Scorpion gazed into the stands and spotted the pregnant belly of Frost. "FINISH HIM!" commanded Shao Kahn. Scorpion debated with himself, should he finally gain revenge on the man who murdered him, or should he spare his life and show that he is somewhat human. Scorpion came to a decision and released SubZero. "Scorpion Wins, Mercy." said Shao Kahn with tones of disappointment. Scorpion walked off the arena as SubZero stared on in amazement, Frost at his side cradling him in her arms.
